2	Scenario Considerations

In "The Once and Future King", the player assumes the role of King Arthur at the
outset of his reign. Arthur's goal is to reunite Britain under his own just
rule, establish justice, peace, good hygiene etc.... Unfortunately for Arthur, the petty
warlords of the realm, like Mark of Cornwall, Caradoc of Wales and Urien of Scotland
stand in his way. His only ally is Lot of Orkney, who may not be of much help.

This scenario was designed with the intent of playing Arthur and the Britons. Playing
Urien of Scotland should also be possible. However, all the other monarchs (esp. Lot of
Orkney and Mark of Cornwall) would probably be very challenging and maybe impossible
	to play.

Arthurian legend is extremely diverse and geographically imprecise. Using a historical
atlas and an Arthurian sourcebook, I did my best to design this scenario. However, it's not
perfect and I've had to make many judgement calls, such as which Arthurian version I should
use, or who should be King of Scotland. So, if I forgot your favorite knight of the Round
Table, I'll try to put him in the next version.

Also, one must be very careful with the Knights of the Round Table. Yes, they are powerful
but when one of my friends was playtesting this scenario, he lost all his knights in
about 10 turns because he was careless.

3	Rule Changes

3.1	New Units

Certain ancient/medieval Civ units are not available in this scenario because they
would not fit in well with an Arthurian setting (i.e. Elephants). So, there are no
phalanxes, legions, warriors, elephants or chariots.

The main units that are present are peasants, light and heavy infantry, modified archers,
siege engines, knights of the Round Table, brigands, barbarian raiders, mercenaries
	and Merlin and King Arthur.

	Peasants, nil, 0, 1.,0, 1a,1d, 1h,1f, 1,0, 1, nil, 000000000000000
	-spear fodder

	Light Foot, nil, 0, 1.,0, 2a,1d, 1h,1f, 2,0, 1, Bro, 000000000000000
	-light infantry

	Heavy Foot, nil, 0, 1.,0, 3a,1d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 1, Iro, 000000000000000
	-heavy infantry

	Archers, Gun, 0, 1.,0, 2a,2d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 1, War, 000000000000000
-slightly different from normal, they're attack values have been reduced, to
	make heavy foot viable

	Brigands, nil, 0, 1.,0, 2a,1d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 0, Pla, 000001000001010
	Mercenaries, nil, 0, 1.,0, 3a,0d, 1h,1f, 1,0, 0, Pla, 001000000000000
	Raiders, nil, 0, 1.,0, 3a,1d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 0, Csc, 000000000000000
-these three are not available to Arthur but there statistics are included here
-brigands are basically partisans except they share submarines ability to hide
-mercenaries are cheap, single use attackers
-barbarian raiders look just like the old barbarian leaders, but they are nastier

	Siege Engine, nil, 0, 1.,0, 6a,1d, 1h,2f, 8,0, 0, Mat, 000000001000000
-basically a super-catapult, it ignores city walls

	King Arthur, nil, 0, 3.,0, 5a,4d, 4h,1f, 7,0, 0, Mob, 000000001000011
	-the man himself

	Sir Gawaine, nil, 0, 2.,0, 4a,4d, 3h,1f, 8,0, 0, Mob, 000000000000000
-a typical knight of the Round Table

	Merlin, nil, 0, 1.,0, 0a,4d, 4h,2f, 5,0, 0, Mob, 000000000000011
-Merlin is not a warrior, but he's damn hard to kill

	*	Regular knights and catapults are still available.

3.2	New Wonders

The Kingdom of Summer at Camelot = The Pyramids
St. Bede's Library at Sunderland = Isaac Newton's College
The Round Table of Camelot = Sun Tzu's War Academy
	Glastonbury Abbey = The Oracle
Lindisfarne Abbey = The Great Library
	Cantebury Cathedral = J.S. Bach's Cathedral

3.3	Other

	*	Monarchy can now support 5 units without cost
	*	Caravels have their movement rate increased to 5
	*	Food required for population growth has been doubled
	*	Scientific research is so slow, it's nonexistent

4	Designer Notes

	* This scenario extensively uses the Civ II macro language. So, there are plenty
of random, as well as planned events. You'll have to play it to find out what
		they are.
	*	I changed so many units in the game, I haven't gotten around to changing their
sound files (so mercenaries sound like cruise missles).
	*	I haven't had the chance to playtest as extensively as I would like, and I've
only have played the Britons. Your feedback would be appreciated and I'll make
any corrections as promptly as possible.
	*	I have tinkered with the "city.txt" file but it is not perfect. Still, you won't
be seeing cities like "Macao" appearing in the middle of Britain, at least.
	* I tried to use authentic historical names as often as possible such as

		Eoforwic=York			Cissanceaster=Chichester
		Cantwarabyriy=Cantebury		Gleawanceaster=Gloucester

	*	Enjoy the scenario!
