                           Napoleon's Triumph
                           ==================

This scenario begins in 1848, forty years after Napoleon's Grand Army
marched into London and the Emperor of France became the Emperor
of Europe. All of Europe west of the Vistula is now part of the French
Empire. The colonies of Louisiana, Quebec and India are once more
under French rule, as well as bits of the now-extinct Spanish empire.
The rest of the world watches nervously as French power increases, for
every increase for France means a weakening of their own chance at
independence, let alone world domination. Who will prevail?

The Players
-----------

France - By far, the mightiest empire in all history. From the golden
prairie of Louisiana to the tropical jungles of Indochine, the
French tricolor flies as a symbol of Gallic dominance. Where next?
The strength of France is also its weakness - can it defend all its
colonies scattered 'round the globe?

Russia - The great empire of Russia survived the chaos of the early
1800s by allying with France. But now France has become the greatest
power on Earth - perhaps time to revise the friendship before France
becomes TOO powerful...

The Ottoman Empire - The Turks sat on the sidelines during the
Napoleonic Wars and were rewarded with peace after a brief skirmish
over the fate of Algeria. Can they prevent a total French takeover
of North Africa or a disastrous war with Russia in the Middle East?

The Royal British - The remnants of the British Empire, based in the
new capital of Vancouver and ruled by an infant queen. With possessions
scattered around the world and no Navy to speak of, can the British
Empire be reforged?

United States of America - Forged by the great patriots of the
Revolutionary War, and strengthened by the addition of eastern Canada
in the 1810s, the American Republic is strong and prosperous, its
population soaring with immigrants and war refugees eager to settle
the West. How far can it rise before coming into conflict with
the French?

The Brazilian Empire - In many ways, the dark reflection of the USA -
it too gained independence from a colonial overlord and expanded
in the chaos of the 1810s, but Brazil is hardly a bastion of democracy.
An expansionist empire based on slave plantations, Brazil is well on
the way to ruling all of South America. All that stands in its way are
the weak Indian tribes and the French colony north of the Amazon.

The Natives - The aboriginal people of the Americas, Asia, Africa and
Australia still cling to their independence despite economic weakness
and a deadly technological gap. Can the natives exploit the colonial
powers long enough to catch up with Western firearms?

Special Notes
-------------
I recommend playing as either France or Russia. The middle powers -
Brazil, America, and the British Empire - are also playable, but will
be forced into a war with France within a few turns. The Ottoman Turks
and the Natives are too weak to have much chance of surviving, although
it can be done.

If you play France, be ready for every other nation to be at war with
you by 1890 at the latest. Can you overcome the balance of power that
defeated every other would-be world ruler from Napoleon to Hitler?

Let me know what you thought of this scenario!
