An Unpolished Mod-Pack for people to try out.

The Rules.txt and Units.bmp in the ExtendedOriginal Directory are for the "Extended" game.

The Terrain1.bmp and Icons.bmp and other misc BMPs can be used in either
the original or the extended Test of Time games.

Warning!: You need to have Civ2 Test of Time for this Mod-Pack to work!

Use as a Modpack.

Original files should be backed up and then these
Files should be copied into the ExtendedOriginal directory.

EXTENDED GAME MOD-PACK

Adds in a second Alien Tribe (on a different planet again)

Uses three empty Unit slots to good effect
to allow three extra land Units namely :

- Reservists (Cheaper defense unit than Riflemen, Mech Infantry etc.
Only Fanatics are more cost effective for same defense strength.)
- Feephi - Beta Centauri only Unit.
- Naval Artillery ("Domain 3" Unit - Can attack ships off the coast.
Best placed in your coastal cities so as to harass
and counter-attack any attacking enemy shipping.
Like Triremes, must stay near land or there is a
danger of being lost. Pairs well with Coastal Fortress
			and strong defensive units.)

INSTALLATION
-------------

Also download, unzip & install the following Terrains file (Terrains 1 to 4 for this game)

http://www.users.bigpond.com/kestrel18/Civ2-ToT-Terrains.zip

Copy these files into the ExtendedOriginal Directory
(don't forget to backup the originals somewhere first)
then *also* move the file Static.spr to your backup directory or the Icons for these
3 new Units, numbers 70, 71 & 72, will not appear properly.

See the Hint from John Possidente from Microprose as to how to get the modified Icons in the Units.bmp to appear properly :

"The pictures in units.bmp are used in the Civilopedia and the build selection menu,
but evidently nowhere else; as long as the game can find the animation files,
it uses the first frame of each as the icon for the unit. These animation files, one for each unit, provide the animations--movement, attack, dying, and so on. The first frame of each animation file is also used, in many places, as the static icon for the unit. So, you can change things in units.bmp, but never see them in the game, except in odd places like the production choice menu. "

"The static frame is first looked for in static.spr if there is no static.spr then it should look to the units.bmp file. To fix this, you will have to rename the static.spr file in each directory so your static frames fall back to the units.bmp file. That hides the first-frame-static-image altogether so the game falls back on the units.bmp icon for the unit. That way, you can keep the existing units animated and still stick in your own."

In summary, to actually see the new units in the Units.bmp file whilst playing,
move the file static.spr to a backup directory (or zip it or rename it).

NOTE - DELETE or MOVE or RENAME ExtendedOriginal STATIC.SPR

SOUNDS INSTALLATION
-------------------

A Couple of new sounds have been added.

Copy the file Feephi.wav from the Sci-Fi Sound Folder to the ExtendedOriginal Sound folder
(or move it to the Sound folder directly under your CIV2
folder which containes such "WAVs" as Aqueduct.wav, Barracks.wav etc.)

Also,

Download the Sound Files found in

http://www.users.bigpond.com/Kestrel18/Civ2-ToT-Modpack-Unit-Mania-Sounds-Part-1.zip

and extract the file BoomBoom.wav - Copy it to the Sound folder (Either directly under your CIV2
folder, as above, or in the EXTENDEDORIGINAL/SOUND folder - It doesn't matter which)

Naval Artillery - comes from Allard Hfelt's Unit Collection
and was resized to fit larger Icon Format

If anyone else wants credit, or I have got any of the above wrong,
please E-Mail me & I will ensure that appropriate credit is given.
