Classic.mp is my version of the "classic" Mediterranean map, extending
father to the east, and much farther to the south, than the one that
comes with the game. The following changes should be noted:

The Zulus represent the Mali, with their king, Mansa Musa, and their
capital at Timbuktu on the great bend of the Niger.
The Indians represent the Minoans, with their king, Minos, or their
queen, Pasiphae, and their capital at Cnossos on the island of Crete.
The Sioux represent the Nubians (Kushites), with their king, Tandamane,
and their capital at Meroe on the upper Nile.
The English represent the Phoenicians, with their king, Hiram, and
their capital at Tyre on the far eastern Mediterranean shore.
The Japanese represent the Arabs, with their sultan, Saladin, and their
capital at Baghdad on the Tigris.
The Germans represent the Austrians, with their king, Charles, or their
queen, Maria Theresa, and their capital at Vienna on the Danube.
The Mongols are led by Batu, Khan of the Golden Horde, grandson of
Genghis Khan, from his capital at Sarai on the Volga delta.
The Russians represent the Scythians, with their king, Scylurus, and
their capital at Neapolis (Simferapol) in the Crimea.
The Americans may represent the Byzantines, with their king, Justinian,
or their queen, Theodora, and their capital at Constaninople on the
European Bosporus; or they may represent the Ottoman Turks, who
captured Constantinople in 1453, renamed it Istanbul, made it their
capital, and attained the height of glory under Sultan Suleyman,
called "the Magificent" in the West and "the Lawgiver" at home.
The Chinese represent the Trojans, with their king, Priam, or their
queen, Hecuba, and their capital at Troy in northwestern Anatolia.
The Celts are led by Vercingetorix from his capital at La Tene in the
 western Alps.
The Vikings represent the Moroccans, with their king, Hassan, and their
capital at Fez in a valley north of the Great Atlas Mountains.
The Aztecs represent the Portuguese, with their King, Henry, and their
capital at Lisbon on the Tagus estuary.
