What I Like About This Map
--------------------------

This is the first detailed map of the Pacific Northwest for
Civilization II. It is based on my detailed map of Oregon for the
original Civilization and my Northwest map for Railroad Tycoon Deluxe.
This map has all of the Northwest's important rivers, and the Grande
Ronde also ;) You have your choice as to how close your neighbor civs
will be -- if you want isolation, choose the Burns or Boise
civilizations; if you want to conquer from the outset, choose any
        Willamette Valley civ :)

The Kitsap Peninsula of Washington is as accurate on my map as the CIV
II map editor will make it. :)

The RULES.TXT file provides the original CIV stats and the Northwest
civ names. The rulers' names are simply "x", for simplicity of
programming. The civs' stats (aggressiveness, style of architecture,
etc.) are the same as the regular civs, also for ease of programming.

The CITY.TXT file has good city names for each of the civs. Once
again, I left alone things that had little to do with the regular
game. I also left the barbarian names alone, so the civ in, say,
Burns, might find themselves paying tribute to the Jutes to keep their
        city from being destroyed :)

What Irks Me About This Map
---------------------------

This map is not 100% precise :) In particular, northern Washington,
northern and central Idaho, the Yakima Valley, and most of southern
Oregon are lacking in realism. The Grande Ronde, Baker, Willamette,
Deschutes and Cowlitz valleys, along with the Columbia Basin, should
be the most accurate areas. I also could not make a realistic Sauvie
Island, so the mouth of the Willamette looks like a real mess.

I had to make the civ based in the city of Burns "the Burns", for lack
        of a better name.

A Wee Bit O' Southeast Oregon Strategy
--------------------------------------

My favorite civ to play is the Burns civ, because it's isolated from
the other civs. Thus, I get time to develop. I build one defense unit
and then I build three settlers. One settler goes to found another
city, and the other two irrigate and build roads around Burns.
Sometimes my first city will produce another one or two settlers for
the purpose of city-building, if I *really* want to expand. I build
cities in all of the nearby arable land -- "nearby" meaning not only
the Malheur-Harney lakes area, but also the Owyhee and Snake valleys
and the basin of Goose Lake. I make a treaty with the Klamaths, if
they exist. (They have a tendency to say "We will not be the slaves of
the decadent Burns empire", so it takes a while.) Once allied with the
Klamaths, I build a bunch of military units and go nuke the nearby
civs, usually Bend, Medford, or Boise. (I have a tough time fighting
the Alturans, for some reason.) And so on, and so forth...
