Thought impossible until the late 21st century, a team led by Dr. Emil Tsung at the QuantoDyne Research Facility succeeded in actually teleporting an inanimate object in 2626 C.E., and a scant 10 years later was able to do the same to a human subject. The device was enhanced by a miniature black hole, the only known power source capable of making a "Heisenberg Determinacy". Although Virtual Reality had succeeded in cutting down the need for as much travel, with the new Teleporter, there was no longer a need for parking, airports (for non-military uses, anyway), or Earth-based launching facilities. This freed up enormous amounts of room for people to live or farm in instead. Additionally, by 2680 C.E., the technology had advanced to the point that it was possible to teleport reliably to anywhere in the Solar System (out to the orbit of Saturn), which greatly increased the number of off-world colonists. Indeed, it could be said that Teleportation was the factor that pushed several NeoLuddites to fund warp space research, ironically to find places where high tech was not present. Of course, the military uses were enormous; it is a measure of the U.S.N.A.'s skills at secrecy that Teleportation did not fall into international usage for another 150 years.
