MARTIN'S CITY GRAPHICS MOD (CITYMOD2), VERSION 2.01 (English and German)

CHANGES FROM VERSION 2.0 TO 2.1

1. German, English Versions and Image Pack merged into one *.zip file.
2. Renamed Computer.tga to Info.tga to avoid a conflicts between Med Pack 2 and CityMod2.
3. And a improved Great Library for the English Version

DESCRIPTION

This mod contains the city graphics for four new city styles and two new ages.
The new city styles are Castle style, Central American Pyramid style, Egyptain Pyramid style and
a Palace style.
Additional this mood adds five new ages: Classical, Medieval, Industrial, Computer and Future.
The graphics for the modern age are replaced by a new Modern style (five graphics for each style,
the origianl Modern style is uesed for the Computer age.
The total number of new city graphics of this mod is now 91.

###################################################################################################

Now to the authors of the different graphics:

The Castle style and the Central American Pyramid style inclusive all the graphics for the
Industrial age are made by Harlan Thompson.

I added the Egyptain Pyramid style and all graphics for the new Modern age.

The Graphics of the Palace style are by PinkFriend (I don't know his real name).
I only added to this style the graphics for the Industrial age and the new Modern age.
I thougt the roofs with a green patina looks better than the original blue-grey tone of PinkFriend
Therefore I made his roofs green.

###################################################################################################

CityMod2 bases on CityMod and that was only possible of Harlan's work from
HARLAN'S GRAPHICS MOD, VERSION 1.0. The 41 new city graphics are my own work. The Classic.tga
is taken from TECHNOLOGY GRAPHICS FOR CTP2 VERSION 1.1 by Harlan Thompson. I remade the
Industri.tga. Now it is better, because I was able to find all parts of this picture.

Unfortunatly just a feture of the German version:
Additional this mod contains Martin Ghmanns Groe Bibliothek v.1.1. This version of the Great
Library is compartible with CTP2 unmodded, CityMod, CityMod2 and WW2. It is a improved GL
in some ways: The statistics for Democracy are now shown. The pollution reduction of city improvements
is now shown correctly. More information about units building and wonders are now depending on the
*.txt files. To use this Great Library in WW2 just replace the Great_Library.txt in the folders
..\Scenarios\Ww2\scen0000\default\german\gamedata and ..\Scenarios\Ww2\scen0001\default\german\ gamedata\gamedata
by the CityMod2 Great_Library.txt and the WW2 GL is fixed. You can also put the Great_Library.txt into
the ..\ctp2data\german\gamedata folader and delete or move or rename the WW2 Great_Library.txt. The
uniticon.txt of CityMod2 must be put into the ..\ctp2data\default\gamedata. The original file contains also
a bug. That caused that a order wasn't displayed correctly.

I also added a modified list of EnglishCityMod that shows which advance belongs to which age according
to the different mod versions.

And I added a sprite list that explain which sprite contains which graphic (for your own mod)

By the way I didn't find a way to solve the problem with the sea cities. Theese sea cities are on
an undersea tunnel that converts the terrain tile into a land therefore the sea cities use the
land graphics.

INSTALLATION

Unzip this *.zip file into your CTP2 directory. For best results use Winzip or Winrar.
Older DOS unzipper aren't able to rebuild the directory tree which is saved in the *.zip file.

Now there are three possibilities to go on:

1. You download Modswapper from WesW's site:

http://www.apolyton/wes/

And than install Modswapper, run this program, select Citymod2 and launch CTP2 with Modswapper.

2. Or do exactly the same things as Modsapper: Modswapper renames the files gamefile.txt,
newsprite.txt and Great_Library.txt to orig_gamefile.txt, orig_newsprite.txt and
orig_great_library.txt. Afterwards the files CM2_gamefile.txt, CM2_newsprite.txt and
CM2_Great_Library.txt are coppied to gamefile.txt, newsprite.txt und great_library.txt.
If you do it manually you only need to do the procedure with gamefile.txt and Great_Library.txt
The file gamefile.txt is be located in the ..\ctp2_data\default\gamedata folder.
The file Great_Library.txt is be located in the ..\ctp2_data\german\gamedata folder.

3. Now the old method is left:

I describe it on porpurse as if you gotn't the tree file structure:

Place all the files that end in .tga in the ..\ctp2_data\default\graphics\pictures folder.

Place all the files that end in .spr into the ..\ctp2_data\default\graphics\sprites
folder.

Put the files CM2_gl_str.txt, CM2_Great_Library.txt and CM2_info_str.txt in the
..\ctp2data\english\gamedata folder.

Rename original gl_str.txt, Great_Library.txt and info_str.txt to something else
in case you want to revert tothat version at a later time.

Rename CM2_gl_str.txt to gl_str.txt, CM2_Great_Library.txt to Great_Library.txt and CM2_info_str.txt
to info_str.txt.

Put the files CM2_civilisation.txt, CM2_age.txt, CM2_agecitystyle.txt, CM2_uniticon.txt,
CM2_script.slc, CM2_Advance.txt and CM2_citystyle.txt in the
..\ctp2_data\default\gamedata folder.

Rename original versions of these file to something else in case you want to revert to
them at a later time.

Rename CM2_civilisation.txt to civilisation.txt, CM2_age.txt to age.txt, CM2_agecitystyle.txt
to agecitystyle.txt, CM2_uniticon.txt to uniticon.txt, CM2_script.slc to sript.slc,
CM2_Advance.txt to Advance.txt and CM2_citystyle.txt to citystyle.txt.

In the ...\ctp_data\default\gamedata folder, rename or place in another folder the files
called civilization.txt, age.txt, agecitystyle.txt, uniticon.txt, script.slc, Advance.txt
and citystyle.txt in case you want to revert to the standard versions of these files at a
later time. Otherwise they will be overwritten.

Place the files civilization.txt, age.txt, agecitystyle.txt, uniticon.txt, script.slc,
Advance.txt and citystyle.txt into the ...\ctp2_data\default\
gamedata folder.

Play and Enjoy...

Thanks goes out to Harlan Thompson, Chris Horscroft, PinkFriend aka ??? and Ben Weaver aka
The Immortal Wombat and Paul van den Belt. Without their work CityMod2 wouldn't be that what
it is now.

MARTIN'S CITY GRAPHICS MOD (CITYMOD2), VERSION 2.0 (deutsch)

								von Martin Ghmann

NDERUNGEN VON VERSION 2.0 ZU 2.01

englischen Seite verhffentlicht hatte.

###################################################################################################

..\default\gamedata\ statt ins Verzeichniss ..\german\gamedata\

1. Du ldst Dir Modswapper von WesWs Seite runter:

http://www.apolyton/wes/

Packe alle *.tga Dateien ins Verzeichnis: ..\ctp2_data\default\graphics\pictures

Packe alle *.spr Dateien ins Verzeichnis: ..\ctp2_data\default\graphics\sprites

Packe die Dateien CM2_gl_str.txt, CM2_Great_Library.txt and CM2_info_str.txt ins

CM2_script.slc, CM2_Advance.txt and CM2_citystyle.txt in den
..\ctp2_data\default\gamedata Ordner.

herstellen musst.

hab's einfachmal bersetzt.)

Spiele, geniee, hab Spa!!!

###HISTORY OF CITYMOD2###

MARTIN'S CITY GRAPHICS MOD, VERSION 1.0 (german)

					By Martin Ghmann

DESCRIPTION

Note this mod is for the german verson of CTP2. I not have the english file to make an english
verson. You have to modify the files gl_str.txt, Great_Library.txt and info_str.txt on you own
for a good english version of this mod.

This mod enhances the graphics for CTP2. The modifications to the game files are listed at the
end of this file, so you will be able to make this mod compatible with your mods and language
version.

This mod adds two city styles of Pyramid and Castle to the three existing land city
styles of Roman, Arab and Asian. In addition, it adds a style for completely new age, the
Industrial Age for all five city styles. So there are a total of 34 new graphics for
cities.

The city sprites are taken from HARLAN'S GRAPHICS MOD, VERSION 1.0 for civCTP by Harlan Thompson.
The file industri.tga is taken from TECHNOLOGY GRAPHICS FOR CTP2 VERSION 1.1 by Harlan Thompson.

DESCRIPTION

Note this mod is for the ENGLISH verson of CTP2. Meaning English language, not nation. Since I
do not speak German, I have added my own text in the few places it is required. The main source
for my text is 'The Collins Atlas of World History', so any complaints about the content of the
text should go to them, not me, and especially not to Martin! Other than that (and the further
notes below), this is basically Martin's mod, repackaged for english language CTP2 computers.

The mod enhances the graphics for CTP2. The modifications to the game files are listed at the end of
this file, so you will be able to make this mod compatible with your mods and language version.

This mod adds two city styles of Pyramid and Castle to the three existing land city
styles of Roman, Arab and Asian. In addition, it adds a style for completely new age, the
Industrial Age for all five city styles. So there are a total of 34 new graphics for cities.

The city sprites are taken from HARLAN'S GRAPHICS MOD, VERSION 1.0 for civCTP by Harlan Thompson.
The file industri.tga is taken from TECHNOLOGY GRAPHICS FOR CTP2 VERSION 1.1 by Harlan Thompson.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES TO ENGLISH VERSION

I have applied the new Pyramid style to the Egyptian civilization - which seemed logical, even
though the pyramids here are the Central American variety, not Middle-eastern styles. To return
Egypt to its original city style (Roman), go to the civilizationMOD.txt file, and find the
Egyptian civilization. Replace the line:

CIV_CITY_STYLE 3

with the line

CIV_CITY_STYLE 0

I was also not totally happy with the advances required to change ages. All advances are
classified as to which age they belong to. Advancing an age requires you to have researched a
set number of advances from the new age. The table below shows the distribution of advances to
ages:

		CTP2	Martin's Mod	This Mod
Ancient 20	20 21
Renaissance	23	20 15
Industrial n/a	8 13
Modern 31	26 25
Genetics 15	15 15
Diamond 18	18 18
TOTAL 107	107 107

To advance an age under both CTP2 and Martin's Mod, you need 5 advances from that age. That
means that the transitions from Renaissance to Industrial and Industrial to Modern are rather
delayed. (I think I was still in the Renaissance style despite having Railroads, Communism,
Electricity and the Industrial Revolution advance itself - which rather surprised me!)

To address this, my version moves some advances into different ages from where they are in Martin's

Geometry and Hullmaking move from Renaissance to Ancient
Feudalism moves from the Ancient age to the Renaissance
Fascism, Nationalism and Physics move from the Renaissance age to the Industrial age
Oil Refining moves from the Modern age back to the Industrial

In addition, to move from the Ancient age to the Renaissance now requires only 3 Renaissance
advances
Moving from Renaissance to Industrial ages requires 3 industrial age advances
Moving from Industrial to Modern ages still requires 5 modern advances
Moving from Modern to Genetic ages requires 3 genetic advances
Moving from Genetic to Diamond ages requires 4 diamond advances.

The excel file enclosed shows this distribution. If you intend to make further changes, the
files you want to adjust are ageMOD.txt (replace the value in lines like "NeedAdvances 3" with a
value of your choice (default for any age after the starting age is 5 advances), and
AdvanceMOD.txt (each advance has a line like "Age AGE_FOUR". Replace this with a different final
number to move the advance from one age to another - eg replacing the above with Age AGE_FIVE
will move the advance from the Modern to Genetic ages).

As far as I know, the only impact this has on the gameplay is that the city graphics change at
slightly different times. Scientific research costs, pollution etc are unaffected to the best of
my (limited) knowledge. I have tested these mods in live games up to the modern age, and it
seems to work fine so far...

I have not addressed the Sea Colony graphics issue in this mod.

Enjoy...

[CONCEPT_INDUSTRIAL_AGE_HISTORICAL]
