1. Origins

You might want to know why anyone would bother to make a dutch modpack. The whole idea
began after I picked up the 2.42 patch at Microprose. I and several others with me were
seriously addicted to this wonderfull game, but as with CIV 1 before, after a while you
discover that even CIV 2 has got room for improvement. Than, with acquiring the patch I started
writing my own rules and creating new units(sometimes bij renaming existing ones that I never build)

I posted a request to find out if there where other addicts that where doing the same.
Jack Valero from Canada replied and pointed my attention to the rocky mountain Civ 2-pages
(for with he deserves my eternal thanks) and that really got me going. So I started to
mess around with a little more than just the rules. We dutch are generaly quit good in
our foreign languages and especialy english, but most good in verbal and not to good in
written language. I had high ambitions; I thought I'd translate the entire game, and so I did.
Only when I first started to test I found out that I infected the game with some serious bugs,
So I started all over again. Most modpacks tend to pay a lot of atention to warfare: mine is different.
The dutch have always been very keen in making a buck, so this modpack is written with one thing in mind:
Build an TRADE-based empire, be a smart diplomat, use you opponents and at the right time: Strike and win!

2. Changes

I'll give you some hints on the changes I made, but I won't tell everything in detail:
First of all: Wonders don NOT become absolete-this will present you with a interesting
game at King-level or higher.
The tech-chain, city improvements, units and terrain have been translated to Typical Dutch
names e.g. their functions have, basicly not been altered, so the icon (witch I left alone)
will tell you what to expect(otherwise just press HELP)
There are 3 new techs:
1 WINDMOLENS-windmills (applied-gives you windmolen=factories)
2 WATERWERKEN-waterworks (applied-gives you engineers, hydroplant & Hooverdam)
3 STADSRECHTEN-city rights (economic-gives you city walls and J.Smith trading)
Some basic city improvements won't cost you a dime, this is the same with banks etc.:
after all they make their own money, so why should the nation pay for it?
Terrain, city-windows people, icons etc. are taken from several other modpacks: up to now
I haven't had the time to seriously modify them, but I have made some minor changes.....
If you're wandering about the "baggermolen"-the big red boat---> It can change oceans into land (and still get away afterwards)
I also added 4 maps: hope you'll enjoy them. If you use these maps, do NOT randomize starting locations or recources.
3. Credits
Credits for most of the GIF-files go to Jeff Head and Michael McCart,Some of them are made or modyfied by myself
musical score by:
GOLDEN EARRING, 2 UNLIMITED, KAYAK, HET GOEDE DOEL, THE SCENE, THE NITS, BOB FOSKO and
EKSEPTION. (all dutch bands/musicians)
Also my THANX to my wife for being patient with me when things didn't go the way I planned
and to Erwin Meester for testing and direct feedback.

4. feedback
It would be nice to get feedback on my game: bugreports or other
shortcomings can help me make an even better game. If you happened to be/speak dutch all spellings-errors
would be nice to. I've run the files over for them, but you never know...
You can give me feedback on : rx5@worldaccess.nl
If you obtained the files in another way than the Internet or want to react in another fashion, mail me a
postcard from the place you live.
