BATTLESUB - A scenario by Peter Corbett

This scenario is an attempt to set up a nice big naval war. It is set in a
sort-of pseudo-modern setting (i.e. the progress of technology has been
altered a little) and as such, has a different set of rules and units from
the usual Civ2 set. This requires a little clever installation as I will
explain later.

Once you have unzipped this file, you will have the following files:

Readme.txt - you're reading it now
Info.txt - a few details about the scenario
Batsub.txt - the nice bit of text that pops up at the start of the scenario
BSRules.txt - information for the computer to handle the new units
BSCity.txt - city names for the scenario
BSUnits.gif - New unit graphics
Batsub.scn - the scenario itself

How these are installed depends of what version of Civ2 you have. If you have
the updated version from Conflicts In Civilisation (if not, why not? It
handles scenarios so much better - and it is worth it for the alien invasion
scenario alone), then follow instruction set 1. Otherwise, follow set 2.

Set 1: Create a new directory in the Scenario folder called Batsub, and copy
all of the files into that folder. Rename BSRules.txt to Rules.txt, BSCity.txt
to City.txt, and BSUnits.gif to Units.gif. Create a new folder called Sound
inside the Batsub folder. Place 3 copies of torpedos.wav (from the original
Sound folder) into this folder, and rename them to Custom1.wav, Custom2.wav
and rather surprisingly, Custom3.wav (didn't expect that, did you). The
scenario is now ready to use.

Set 2: This is more compilcated (Are you sure you can't afford C in C. It is
very handy, and the new sound tracks are MUCH better than the old ones).
Copy all of the files into your Civ2 folder. Do the following renamings, IN
THIS ORDER.

Rules.txt TO ORules.txt
City.txt TO OCity.txt
Units.gif TO OUnits.gif
BSRules.txt TO Rules.txt
BSCity.txt TO City.txt
BSUnits.gif TO Units.gif

Inside the Sound folder, create 3 copies of torpedos.wav, calling them
Custom1.wav, Custom2.wav and Custom3.wav.

When you have got fed up with this scenario, and want to play normal Civ2 or
another scenario, you need to do the following renamings, IN THIS ORDER.

Rules.txt TO BSRules.txt
City.txt TO BSCity.txt
Units.gif TO BSUnits.gif
ORules.txt TO Rules.txt
OCity.txt TO City.txt
OUnits.gif TO Units.gif

Or, alternatively, you could buy C in C and follow instruction set 1.

Credit must be given where credit is due, so a few things must be mentioned.
Firstly, Steve Strayer, creator of the Fascism patch. Although I did not use
it, I adapted the paratrooper graphics to use as my Infantry unit. (By the
way, Steve, there appears to be a small mistake in the para unit - the rifle
shadow was in the wrong place.) The new subs were subtly altered from the
normal Civ2 Sub (as if you couldn't guess.) Everything else is a product of
my warped imagination. Anyone designing their own scenarios should feel free
to use any parts of the scenario - if it is put into public circulation, a
quick mention in the readme file would be nice, but it is by no means
compulsory. It would also be nice if you told me about it by e-mail (address
at bottom of text), and very nice indeed if you could attach the scenario
to that e-mail. NOTE: this is not compulsory, but feedback is welcome...

Two final things. Firstly, do read the info.txt file - it may help you to
understand the scenario, and secondly, DO buy the Confilcts in Civilisation
scenario CD. It doesn't cost very much, it has twenty great scenarios on it,
some music on it which is actually listenable to, and an update of Civ2.
This update has a rather nice feature - a system for handling interesting
events. (Ever wanted to design a scenario where reinforcements arrived on
turn 30. Well, with this you can.) My next scenario may well use this - so
buy it or miss out.

So, enjoy the scenario, and watch out for the next amazing scenario from:

PS. Comments (good or bad), good ideas, fan mail, and even money if you're
generous are very welcome, and may even encourage me to make another scenario.
However, they are by no means compulsory. Feel free to distribute this
scenario - but don't alter it (except for own personal use) or sell it.
My adress will have changed by October '97, so if you want to contact me
after then, then you will have problems (I might have a web page that you
could find using Altavista or Hotbot or similar, but maybe not).

PPS. Does anyone out there know how to put those nice unit graphics in the
screen that appears when you load up the scenario? I have looked through
a lot of files and experimented somewhat - but to no avail. Can someone help
me out here?
