^
^ Quebec's final referendum for separation from Canada came in early 1998.
^ The Quebec peoples' feelings that they were being mistreated led to the
^ rise of a political party, the Parti Quebecois, that advocated the
^ removal of Quebec from the Dominion of Canada. An overwhelming 76 percent of
^ voters agreed with the party and by January 2001, the separation was
^ complete. However, the Canadian government's demands that Quebec take
^ upon her at least one-quarter of the country's debt did not sit well and
^ the Quebec government refused. Tensions rose as the belief that another
^ Chechnya was to happen, but the Canadians backed down and Quebec was left
^ free of debt and worries. However, the Ottawa government's inability, or
^ unwillingness, to make the Quebecois pay, angered many Western Canadians who
^ believed that Quebec had always enjoyed special attention. These feelings of
^ being left out culminated in a meeting of the Premiers of British Columbia,
^ Alberta, and Saskatchewan, in which it was decided they would let the people
^ of their three provinces decide the next step in a plebicite. The people chose
^ secession from Canada if Quebec was not forced to pay at least 34 percent of the
^ national debt. This is where you take over. Is it war or peace? Will the
^ Americans aid the Canadians or the West. Will France decide to help her
^ brethren? Will the Natives join Canada, Quebec, the West, or will they strike
^ out on their own? Only you can find out.
^ The Protagonists are the Canadians. They have to try and bring their country back
^ together. The Republicans and Quebecois hope to keep their independence.
