In 1642 the English Parliament went to war against the absolute monarchy
of Charles I. With the aid of allied Scottish troops the parliamentary army
defeated Charles in two civil wars and executed him in 1649, replacing him
with an English Commonwealth, eventually under the protectorship of Oliver
Cromwell, the architect of Parliament's victory. Cromwell went on to subjugate
both Ireland and Scotland, to put down the rising of the Socialist Levellers
and to create the first unified govenment for Britain. Can you repeat, or
prevent, Cromwell's victories?
