^Following the death of Ramses II, the civilized world entered the iron age.
Egypt, having no sources of iron, found it increasingly difficult to import
the metal from Asia. These troubles, plus a series of weak rulers, seemed
to seal Egypt's fate. All eyes turned toward the feirce Assyrians. With
a virtual jungle of new military units, they soon became the most feared
people of all time. Many other civilizations, like the Egyptians, soon found
themselves struggling to compete with the mighty Assyrians. They crowded
their cities with obsolete units, and practically begged for mercy as the
competition overwhelmed the ancient world. Because of these savage and
undeniable invasions from the Assyrians and other tribes, Egypt slowly
 slipped into decline.
