Designer: Andrew P.Livings

Credits: Credit should go to Harlan Thompson for his compilation of
improvement icons; to Michael D.Raney for his handy flags; for
everyone whose unit icons I availed myself of, and Microprose
          especially for most of them.

Overview: I started this project as a reaction to the inadequacies of the
original WW2 scenario included with Civ2. As a project I started by
merely 'tweaking' the original files; later I completely revised them
from scratch, so this scenario now features:

          - An accurate map of the European theatre (hah!) with good location
            and spread of cities.
          - A revised advances tree, just to include stuff like Jet Engine,
which was my first ever 'tweak' to the original Civ2.
          - 20th century Wonders. All the wonders are active (with unique
corresponding icons - see above) except for Leonardo's Workshop.
This is in Rome and can be activated if you wish by removing its
obsolesence in the @ENDWONDERS section of the file Rules.Txt. I
felt it was too advantageous to any one power.
          - Tons of unique units (see below for break down and Notes.Txt for
details). Anyone wishing to use my icons is free to do so, after
all I freely filched other people's, but I would ask that anyone
using them in their own published scenario retains my initials in
the icon and/or extends acknowledgement elsewhere.

Versions: Version 1.0 (as I call it) included the improvements to the available
units, which has remained constant, and also to the distribution of
units. Awarded new units when techs. discovered. (Good idea, but
          didn't work as anticipated).

Version 1.1 modified the terrain and cities, creating new Allied
cities in America and India, the creation of Copenhagen for the
neutrals and the changed allegiance of many Axis cities to neutrals
to reflect the earlier starting date.

Version 2.0 was a radical revision of the map inspired by the
geography of the WW1 scenario and fused with my existing alterations.
The result, inevitably, was smaller, denser, C.European cities. There
were some unique additions: Narvik, Kabul, Peshawar and the Canary
Islands. The Wonders were radically altered: renamed for 20th century
innovations with corresponding icons, and they are all active. The
advances were slightly tweaked to give anti-Semitism to the Axis that
allows the wonder "Final Solution" (Hanging Gardens). The events were
also altered away from awarding unit with techs to creating more new
          units with variable triggers.

Version 2.01 featured the addition of the Fortress unit, filched from
          the Fascism patch.

Version 2.1 with a revised advances section, to free up the extra
slots that CIV2.EXE version 2.7.81 uses, thereby making this scenario
          compatible with version 2.62 (or 2.42, or less presumably - I haven't
          checked).

Version 2.11 with a revised notes.txt. Also improved flags in
          cities.gif to represent national flags.

Version 2.2 with amended Pedia.txt. Also solved compatibility
          problems for version 2.62

Version 2.3 with reorganized units to free slot 9.

Version 2.31 with slight amendments to Events.txt, Rules.txt and
          Notes.txt acting on feedback received.

Version 2.4 (orignally 2.32) with tweaked cities.gif file to cure
shield shadow problem. Added new units, and increased the cost of
Settlers and Engineers. Also re-ordered so that Axis is first power
to go, that also allows for a unit icon to appear on the briefing
sceen. Better support for low-res users: title.gif and briefing
text are now configured to 640x480 as default, although old
          800x600 files are included.

Version 2.41 with new recon plane unit to take advantage of slot
20, and fill in a gap that is becoming standard. Also, finally,
added the improvment "AA-battery" to replace the standard SAM
          battery.

Units: The first part I tackled was to increase the number of units, so:
          Infantry:   Homeguard; Conscripts; Regular Inf.; Commandos;
Partisans; Mech. Inf.; Alpine Corps; Paratroopers.
Tanks 1: Panzer; Cruiser; Renault; Recon. Vehicle.
          Tanks 2: Panther; T-34; Churchill.
Artillery: Artillery; Siege Gun; Howitzer; Self-Propelled Gun.
Aircraft 1: Adv. Biplane; Early Bomber. Recon plane.
Aircraft 2: Adv. Fighter; Adv. Bomber.
Aircraft 3: Jet Fighter; Jet Bomber.
          Ships 1:    Coal Destroyer; Coal Cruiser; Dreadnought;
Battle Cruiser; Early Sub; Troop Trans.
Ships 2: Destroyer; Cruiser; Battleship; Heavy Cruiser; Fleet
Carrier; Adv. Sub; Bulk Trans.; Fast Trans.
Special: Static AA; Mobile AA; Fortress.
          Rocketry: V-1; V-2; Guided Bomb.

Events: Randomly generated Axis Subs. in Atlantic to simulate on-going
Atlantic War; Axis Infantry on E.Indian border to represent
incursions by Japanese; Neutral Partisans to represent on-going
          resistance movts. in E.Europe.
The loss of Warsaw to the Axis will provoke the French and Allies to
declare war; also Athens, Stalingrad, Cherbourg, Amsterdam and
Cologne are all CITYTAKEN triggers. The loss of Lvov to the Axis will
provoke the Soviet Union to declare war on the Neutrals.
June 1941 will bring the Soviets into the war; November 1942 sees
Allied landings in North Africa. September 1949 ends the scenario
          with a dramatic announcement!

Installation: I wouldn't recommend using this as a Mod pack, therefore a sub-
directory should be created to store the files, usually \CIV2\SCENARIO\EURO1939,
and all the sound files (*.wav) should be moved into the sound sub-directory,
usually \CIV2\SCENARIO\EURO1939\SOUND.
