                         INTRODUCTION

This is a free of charge but copyright protected "Boer War" scenario.

All rights belong to author.

The idea, map of South Africa and units design created by Alex

The Magnificent, 1998.

Map, towns, units dislocation, events correspond as close as

possible to the real history of Boer War 1899-1901.

                     INSTALLING THE GAME, PROBLEMS

To play scenario you must have a licensed copy of Microprose's

"Civilization 2" (vers. 2.2-2.42) with the "Fantastic Worlds" addition

installed on your HD and "Fantastic Worlds" CD-disk in your SD.

This scenario will not work with the "Conflict in Civilization" CD-disk.

Place the "Boer War" folder into scenario directory. Then launch the game

as a scenario.

                           WHAT'S NEW?

1.NEW UNITS

There are 5 units created for this scenario by Alex The Magnificent:

Boer Militia

European Volunteer

English "khaki" Soldier

Britain Highlander (in the beginning the game only)

English Militia (in the beginning the game only)

2. UPGRADED, COMBINED UNITS

English Cavalry

Dragoon ("khaki") cavalry

Boer Cavalry

Boer Machine Gun

"Long Tom" - siege cannon

Sapeur

Black Spearman

Zulu Rifleman

Zulu Settler

3. Original UNITS

Artillery- from "Civilization 2" orig. (Microprose).

Engineer, English "red" soldier and black warrior taken from

"Verne" scenario - "Fantastic Worlds" (Microprose).

Horse design from "Napoleon" scenario - "Conflicts in

Civilization" (Microprose).

Zulu warrior - from independent "Africa" scenario; creator and

designer Ricardo Logus.

I am always ready to replace any units on my own design if some

of their authors will insist.

IMPORTANT: some battle units have duplicates which are absolute

identical. Don't worry about it, this necessary to mace PC-side

more active.

IMPORTANT: this is a war-game, not an expansion game. Only Zulu can

Produce settlers. English have 4 sapeurs, which also can attack, and each

Boer republic have 2 non-combat engineers. When lost they'll never appear again.

NOTE: Each side has its own unique design.

                              PARTISANS

Only Boers "produce" partisans if on of their city has been taken.

Partisans have no special abilities.

                              DIPLOMACY

"Diplomat" units not present in game. It is necessary to prevent

the Computer side from stealing specific technologies which determine

design of the other side.

Natives have some primitive and useless "technologies" , for example

"boomerang", "kai-kai" etc... but they are necessary only to make

bargain possible during negotiations.

NEVER change, give, take specific technologies:

Boer code

English code

Zulu code

White code

Black code

Rifle code

Khaki code

Nothing code

Never make a gift to the natives if gift is a "unit"

                                TRADE

Where is trade during the war? No trade in this scenario, no

caravan units.

                             LAND DESIGN

Land design simplified : no "banana", "buffalo",...

CITY DESIGN

Only two city design possible: European (from "Civ-2" orig.)

and Natives (combined by A.M.)

                       TECHNOLOGIES, WONDERS

All sides already have all necessary technologies and wonders.

Only English and Zulu will automatically get one new technology during

the game.

                             BEWARE!

This scenario was made especially for the Boer side. You can choose command

Of the Orange Republic or Transvaal, but you cannot control both armies

at one time. If you want to change command, use "Cheat" mode and

"Set human player button".

But BEWARE! Using other "cheat" commands may destroy scenario design and

balance.

                               WAR

Boer and Great Britain are always at war. Orange and Transvaal are allies,

their armies have identical design.

Bantu and Basuto - weak, but aggressive native tribes. They always hide

a knife behind the back.

Zulu - single tribe which try re-expansion and try to rebuild their lost

kingdom. They have some surprises for you during the game.

It is very hard to win in this game and it is not the main goal. According

to the historical reality Boers had an advantage in the beginning, but finally

almost inevitably they lost. The more you can resist superior British

pressure, the higher your game score will be. It is funny, but I, the creator of

this scenario, could not win a single time.

                             PROMOTION

If you like this scenario and have idea how to improve it you are

always welcome.
