THE HISTORY OF MYTHOLOGY Scenario Version 1.1
				  Version 1.2
First in the HISTORY OF RELIGION Series
by Thomas & Stephen Peluso

You are now traveling in an alternate time. A great war has just begun which
will plague Europe for 4000 years. It is a war which pits five of the most
well known mythological civilizations against each other. Historians have
questioned for decades whether these mythologies actually existed. The truth
is, THEY ALL EXISTED! Now only YOU can decide which one will survive.

INSTALLATION
Please note that with all versions of The History of Mythology (1.1, 1.2, and
the forthcoming 2.1) you will require some version of WinZip. Place the zip
file in the main C Drive section, make sure Use Folder Names is checked,
and then extract. The files will be copied to a directory called HisMyth in a
Scenario subdirectory of your main Civ2 directory. If you have changed or
moved your main Civ2 directory from the default, move the files to a HisMyth
directory under a Scenario directory there, otherwise the scenario may not
work right.

NOTE:
Version 1.1 is designed with Fantastic Worlds, Version 1.2 is for those who
do not have Fantastic Worlds.

CIVILIZATION ADVANCES
There are 7 new civilization advances, most of which were put in for
historical accuracy, and do not provide you with anything new. The new
advances are as follows:

ALPHABETICAL SCRIPT
Requires: Hieroglyphics
Prerequisite for: Alphabet
CAROLIGIAN ART
Requires: Pottery & Bronze Working
Prerequisite for: Alphabet & La Tene
DRUIDISM
Requires: Writing & Ceremonial Burial
Can build unit: Druid
Prerequisite for: Literacy
DOMESTICATION
Prerequisite for: Horseback Riding
HIEROGLYPHICS
Prerequisite for: Alphabetical Script
LA TENE
Requires: Philsophy & Caroligian Art
Can build improvement: School of Illumination
MASTIC
Prerequisite for: Pottery

The rest of the tree has been adjusted as necessary to provide the necessary
units and improvements, and to insure a correct procession of knowledge. The
tree ends at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, with Future Tech
requiring Theory of Gravity & Physics. Only two Industrial advances have been
included for accuracy: Sanitation & Fundamentalism.

UNITS
All of the non-ancient units have been replaced, some that are included in
special events, some that are specific to a civilization. Check the Defense
Minister's report at the start of the game for information concerning the new
units. The new units which can be built by all are as follows:

SPEAR INFANTRY REQ: Bronze Working	OBS: Iron Working
Attack 3 Defend 1 Move 1 1HP1FP Cost 50

BOW INFANTRY REQ: Warrior Code	OBS: Gunpowder
Attack 3 Defend 1 Move 2	1HP1FP Cost 50

DAGGER INFANTRY REQ: Iron Working	OBS: Chivalry
Attack 2 Defend 1 Move 1	2HP1FP Cost 50

AX INFANTRY REQ: Iron Working
Attack 4 Defend 1 Move 1	1HP1FP Cost 60

SLAVES (Settlers)
Attack 0 Defend 2 Move 1	2HP1FP Cost 40

ADVANCED KNIGHTS	REQ: Engineering	OBS: Leadership
Attack 5 Defend 3 Move 2	2HP1FP Cost 40

ADVANCED CRUSADERS	REQ: Fundamentalism
Attack 6 Defend 2 Move 2	2HP1FP Cost 40

DRUID (Spy) REQ: Druidism
Attack 0 Defend 0 Move 2	1HP1FP Cost 30

CITY IMPROVEMENTS
Due to the blocks on technology, most city improvements are unavailable.
Some still exist, and here are the ones that have changed:

FETISH (Granary) REQ: Pottery
SCHOOL OF ILLUMINATION (Library)	REQ: La Tene
MONASTERY (Colosseum) REQ: Monotheism
WHARF (Harbor) REQ: Seafaring
TRADING POST (Superhighways) REQ: Trade

WONDERS OF THE WORLD
Most of the Wonders of the World have either been blocked by technology or
because of non-valubility (Shakespeare's Theatre, because all civs are
Fundamentalists). Those that remain have either been renamed and placed at
the start of the scenario, or must be built. Here are the Wonders:

CELTS
Book of Kells (Leonardo's Workshop)
Stonehenge (King Richard's Crusade)
Halloween Holiday (Hanging Gardens)

AFRICANS
Lion Temple (United Nations)

TEUTONICS
Valhalla (Sun Tzu's War Academy)
Yggdrasil (Colossus)

EGYPTIANS
Pyramids
Lighthouse
Rosetta Stone (Marco Polo's Embassy)
Temple of Ramsees II	(Michelangelo's Chapel)
*Great Sphinx* (Darwin's Voyage)
(see note below)

GREEKS
Oracle
Olympic Games (Great Wall)
Temple of Artemis	(Eiffel Tower)

Those which can be built include:
Great Library
Copernicus' Observatory
Magellan's Expedition
J.S. Bach's Cathedral
Issac Newton's College

All of the normal prerequisites for unrenamed Wonders have remained the same.
Note that at the beginning of the scenario the Egyptians are building the
Great Sphinx. Since it replaces Darwin's Voyage, the only way for it to be
valuable to the holder is for it to be unavailable at the start of the
scenario. You probably will not be able to build Great Sphinx because of the
shield cost, lack of gold, and time, but only if the Egyptians do not abandon
the venture. This is a constant problem when the Egyptians are computer-
controlled; if anyone knows how to rectify this problem, please e-mail either
one of us (addresses are at the end of this file).

SPECIAL EFFECTS AND NOTES:
Each citizen eats only one food per turn. (They were not very indulgent).
However, the Food Box has increased in size, so cities will grow at about the
same rate in a normal game. You can have up to a size 10 rather than 8
without an Aqueduct, and size 15 rather than 12 without a Sewer System. Since
this was a time of great advancement and discovery, the maximum effective
science rate for Fundamentalists has been erased. This scenario follows the
Objectives format. Here are the values:

Decisive Victory > 24
Marginal Victory > 18
Marginal Defeat < 12
Decisive Defeat < 6

A few more things:

Governments cannot be changed. These civilizations are all paganist, god-
worshiping maniacs, and fighting for their gods is all they care about.

Pollution is not a part of the scenario. None of these civilizations had to
deal with factories in their time, right?

This is a Total War scenario. NO SPACESHIPS! You must conquer the world to
win the game, but your other divine opponents may have other ideas.

On the transposed time scale (A.T. standing for Altered Time) you have 250
years to win the scenario.

PLANS FOR VERSION 2.1
Version 2.1, due out Easter 1998, will include some planned updates included
here, and maybe a few new surprises. The new version will be FANTASTIC WORLDS
compatible only. As of writing this file, we didn't know whether using the
Fantastic Worlds editors would make the scenario uncompatible with CivIIers
who don't yet have Fantastic Worlds. If you cannot find a certain version,
e-mail us (either address) and we will send you a copy via e-mail.

For Version 2.1, we plan to make the scenario a little bit more historically
accurate, and add some new improvements and technology advances. It will also
contain an updated Units file, and due to the switch to Fantastic Worlds
format, we will be able to correct the problem that we were experiencing with
coordinating sounds for the units.

COMING SOON!
The Holy Battle for Heaven
Second in the HISTORY OF RELIGION Series

In this brand new Fantastic Worlds format scenario, you will take part in the
greatest war in the history of the entire divine world. You must choose to
play Heaven, lead by God, defenders of good and right. Or you can choose to
play Hell, lead by the evil Satan, carriers of evil and wrong who want to
depose God, take over Heaven, and then proceed to destroy the Earth. Who will
succeed? Come St. Patrick's Day 1998, the fate of the world will rest in YOUR
hands.
