Make sure you have the following protocols in the "network configuration" of your "Control Panel":
Dial-up adapter.
IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol
TCP/IP
For the computer that is dialed IN TO, set up Dial-Up Networking (in "My Computer"):
NEED WINDOWS 98 (Dial-up server)
Change server type to "PPP internet, Windows NT server, Windows 98"
to install:
- 1) go to start -->settings-->control panel
- 2) click on add/remove programs
- 3) click on "window's setup tab"
- 4) click on "communications"
- 5) click "details"
- 6) check the "dial-up server" box
- 7) hit "OK" a couple times and restart
NOTE: if you have a dial-up connection to the internet, the connection screen may
automatically launch, just hit cancel. Also, set up a password for whoever is going
to log into your computer (if you want protection). Don't forget to click the button to
allow caller access (and to receive phone calls, you need to disable this option or
turn off your computer).
For the other computer, set up a dial-up connection to the first computer. Once you've "logged" on, both people:
- 1) start Civ: CTP
- 2) Click on Multiplayer
- 3) Choose "TCP/IP Lan" connection type [NOTE: if dial-up connection launches, just hit the
cancel button]
- 4) Set up profiles and enter lobby
- 5) Create game and launch
