Information Introduction
Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) was founded on July 26th, 1998 after a week-long discussion between the co-owners to-be, Daniel Quick and Markos Giannopoulos, who to then had been managing separate Civilization II fansites. ACS is a site created by Civilization fans, in an effort to provide information on the entire Civilization genre of computer gaming. The name APOLYTON (ah-poll-eh-ton) has two meanings. First, meaning "ultimate" in Greek it reflects the ACS staff and administration's commitment to the continued complete coverage of the most comprehensive collection of Civilization-related material on the Internet. Second, it is an allusion to the names of the once separate CivII sites mentioned: The Ultimate Civilization II Site (Quick's) and The First Greek Civilization 2 Site (Giannopoulous').
COMPREHENSIVE GAMING COVERAGE
Apolyton's initial gaming coverage consisted of the original Civilization for the PC, Civilization II and Civilization: Call to Power. Since then, the site's coverage has expanded as the respect franchises have grown and added opportunity and interest. Below is a list of ACS' gaming line-up as of August 1, 2005. The company named after "by" is the game's developer and, in some cases, publisher as well. The dates in each set of brackets indicate roughly or approximately when that game('s)(s') coverage was *officially* added to ACS.
- Alpha Centauri by Firaxis Games (January 1999)
- Alternative Civilizations (August 1998)
Generic term for the following freely distributed, fan-inspired and driven developments: Clash of Civilizations, Freeciv, Guns, Germs & Steel, Manifest Destiny, The Courts of Candle'Bre, and Trade Wars
- Sid Meier's Civilization by MicroPROSE (July 26th, 1998)
- Sid Meier's Civilization II by MicroPROSE (July 26th, 1998)
- Sid Meier's Civilization III by Firaxis Games (December 29th, 1999)
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV by Firaxis Games (April 9th, 2005)

- Galactic Civilizations by Stardock Systems (January 8th, 2003)

- Master of Orion III by Quicksilver Software (April 6th, 2002)
- Rise of Nations by Big Huge Games (March 6th, 2002)
With one notable exception, all sections were developed in-house from the beginning. The exception is Alpha Centauri whose coverage base came from Beyond Alpha Centauri which Apolyton absorbed in January 1999.
SUPPLEMENTARY GAMING COVERAGE
The following games are provided supplementary coverage on Apolyton. This means that while there is no cemented and on-going effort by the ACS staff and administration to coverage these titles, dedicated forums have been founded and are being maintained. The possibility of comprehensive gaming coverage for each of the titles named below remains open, but never assured.
THE EXTENDED FAMILY
For some of the above and other projects, Apolyton lends a "helping hand" in their development and maturity by offering free hosting and continual community exposure to promising endeavours in their pre-development, post-development and expansion/sequel phases. This hosting includes email accounts and dedicated forums as requested and the need demands.
These sites are listed below in alphabetical order. The date(s) in the brackets after each of their names indicates roughly or approximately their hosting/affiliation began with ACS and ended where applicable.
On behalf of the Apolyton Civilization Site staff and administration, thank you for your visit. Always remember to Keep On Civ'in!
