DAWN OF A NEW AGE
(20 March 2005, 15:30 | CtP2 | 299 comments) If you thought modmaking for Call to Power II was dead, you couldn`t be more wrong! Stankarp officially announced that he`s almost ready to release a brand new mod titled Ages of Man. This mod offers such a complete overhaul of the entire game (both graphics and gameplay) that it`s closer to being a sequel or an expansion pack than to a regular mod. A brief overview of the features that this mod will offer:
- Play one of 44 different Nations, each with its own Character
- Succession with Kings and Great Kings
- Bombardment, Counter Bombardment, Sieges, Supply and Supply Trains
- Natural Disasters and Happy Events
- Advances from Goods and Goods that help fight Natural Disasters
- Multi Level Trade including Cartels
- Each Period of History has its own Unique Flavour, Making AOM like 4 games in One
- Quick Start Option and Different Starting Periods
- Elite Troops, Generals, Wonder Units and Historical Heroes with Special Abilities
- Civilisation Traits that Change with the Progress of History and Special Governments
- Prisoners of War, Empire Surrender, Pillaging and Capturing Advances
- Each Major Period of History has a Complete Range of Military Units
- Many New Units are Less Generic and More Historically Accurate
- Major Historical Events such as the Black Death and Mongol Horde
- Aggressive Barbarians and Ai Players
- And Lots More
To promote and distribute his mod, stankarp dedicated a full website to it, with information pages, screenshots, forums, a diary and more. You can also (pre-)order CDs on this website, both for the original CtP2 game and for Ages of Man. The full mod will be over 400 MB(!) large and is expected to be released in April or May of this year. The possibility of hosting (some version of) this ambitious project on Apolyton is currently being investigated. - Locutus
TORONTO-AREA EXPERT SOUGHT
(5 January 2005, 07:54 | CtP2 | 12 comments) Call to Power II is once again [see earlier story] to be subject of scientific study, as the University of Toronto (Canada) plans to use the game as part of a design class. As part of this class, the students, who will be designing new interface features, will have to gather requirements from subject matter experts: people who are very familiar with the game. This is where the said institute needs the help of Call to Power II players. As a teaching assistant Pierre Duez of the said institute posts in our CtP2 forum:
We`re looking for somebody with a lot of expertise with the game, who lives in (or near) Toronto, who would be willing to volunteer a couple of hours of time on a Thursday morning (likely late January or early February) to come in and talk to students and answer their questions about how you play the game. No preparation would be needed on your part.
If you`re intested in participating in this class as an expert, you can find more information, including contact information for Pierre Duez, in the forum thread. - Locutus

(8 October 2004, 18:07 | CtP2 | 47 comments) With the last one just over, it`s time for a new CtP2 tournament. This time we`re playing with Dale Kent`s World At War! mod. The map is one with sort of a `twist`, but you`ll find out about that as you play. The top score of 26,600 was achieved by ETB, while the price for earliest win goes to Maquiladora who won a Diplomacy Victory as early as 270 AD. NEW TERRAIN GRAPHICS
(21 June 2004, 13:14 | CtP2 | 222 comments)
Forum user E has finished his graphics mods that replaces many of CtP2`s terrain with graphics from various Civ3 mods and E`s own work. The result is that the map has a brighter look and the terrain types blend together better. The new graphics can be downloaded from the Apolyton Directory (3 MB). Comments and questions can be posted in the forums. - Locutus
NEW SUCCESSION GAME STARTED
(17 June 2004, 07:05 | CtP2 | 159 comments) Gilgamensch reports: We have started the 8th succession for CTP2. This time we will be playing with Hex`s Craddle 1.30b[. At] the moment we [have] 5 players, but more can still join, so long I haven`t finished my turn yet. The rules can be found here. We have already started and till now we have been lucky when exploring the goody huts. But the AI is still out there to hunt us. The main rules of this succession game are the following:
- Loose 3 day (72hrs) limit on passing turn on.
- No Razing conquered cities.
- No Farms under cities.
- No Right-Clicking bug use.
- Obviously no other cheats.
- Renaming of cities and armies is allowed, but post it.
If you`re interested in finding out the details or even joining, go to the forum thread. - Locutus
NEW STRATEGY WEBSITE
(6 April 2004, 13:20 | CtP2 | 34 comments) A new website has been opened by Maquiladora for those in the CtP2 community who want to improve their game. The website is aimed at multiplayer strategies but is equally useful for single player games. It discusses all the features of the game: empire settings, city placement and management, research, tile improvements and how to use your units. Maquiladora announced that the site [is] basic now, but it will get more detailed soon. - Locutus
PLAYTEST BUILD RELEASED
(3 April 2004, 17:57 | CtP2 | 502 comments) A new playtest build for the CtP2 Source Code Project has been released today. A playtest build is de facto an (early) beta of the to-be-released Apolyton patch. This file contains everything needed to run the latest version of the patch-under-construction and can be installed over either a vanilla or patched version of the game. The list of changes can be viewed here. It should be fairly playable but please remember that it`s intended for playtesting only: there may be serious bugs in it and it might theoretically break your game (or worse). It is strongly recommended you backup any data before installing. Use at your own risk.
You can find the file in the Source Code Project section of the Apolyton Directory and if you encounter any bugs, crashes or other problems, please do report them in the forum -- this will help bring the release of the final version of the patch closer. - Locutus
