Interviews
From time to time, it is those at Apolyton Civilization Site who become the interviewee, as opposed to the interviewer. Up until recently, all of these discussions have been informal; basically, conversations on a routine basis with colleagues.
An highly anticipated event on August 18th, 1999 changed all that, with ACS' very own DanQ making an apperance as a guest on Shattered Star Radio, part of the Shattered Star Confederacy (SSC). The show was a profile on Civilization-related sites on the Internet, and along with two staff members from SidGames, co-owners Kunal Shah and Stephen Lee, marked SSC's first live online broadcast. The show lasted more than 2 hours, and at its peak had 23 simotaneous users listening to the show when it aired on the aforementioned date between 7-9PM EST.
During the show, a chat powered through the global use of ICQ (I-Seek-You) technology allowed listeners to ask questions to the personalities being interviewed; host Ray Hill (aka WaterStar) talked to any two inpiduals at once, including a fellow SSC member in the latter stages of the show. With the exception of some temporary technical difficulties around 8PM, everything went off without a hitch. WaterStar even hinted at the possibility of a follow-up show with this group sometime down the road.
Now that the show is complete, we have the audio transcript available for download below in RealAudio format. You will need Real Player 5.0 or higher to listen. While the show itself was streamed, which is a necessity for a live show, it was decided that it would easier for all involved just have the show available for download in the "conventional" method. It was encoded for 14.4K connections (8.5k/sec), so the quality is more that of AM radio as opposed to FM or (now-wouldn't-this-be-something) CD quality, although it is only truly noticeable during the musical segments (no, no one on the air sings so you can relax {grin}).
For those of you without speakers and/or an adequate sound card, or even those who would prefer to read a simple text transcript of the show, this is coming in the weeks ahead so stay tuned.
Because of technical difficulties, the archive got broken up into two files. We have however broken that up into four to make it easier for those without "download resume" programs to grab each file in 'digestable' chunks. If you are looking for one of these rusumer programs, we recommend either Go!Zilla or GetRight.
