MOVING UP ON REVISED `TOP 100` INDEX
(29 July 2005, 16:50 | Civ2) Gaming site IGN has re-compiled their "Top 100 Games" list they originally published more than two years ago. Civilization II has moved from 15th on the first [see story] to 4th position on the new chart. The description as to why CivII made the list has changed as well.
You can`t make a list of the best games ever without including at least half a dozen of the old [publisher] MicroPROSE [(MPS)] titles. [This is o]ur favorite by far... Building on the addictive historical strategy concept pioneered in the original game, [CivII] is one of the deepest and most complex games ever made.
CivII was published by (MPS) to which Civilization III publisher Infogrames (IG), now Atari, acquired the rights to through its purchase of Hasbro Interactive in January, 2001. Hasbro had previously purchased MPS. Four years later, it was announced that Atari had sold the Civ franchise to fellow game publisher Take-Two Interactive [see story]. - DanQ
GAME MECHANICS REFERENCE BOOKLET
(29 May 2005, 15:07 | Civ2 | 10 comments)
Starlite has created a 22 pages reference booklet covering Civilization II game mechanics.
The booklet aims to take the guess-work out of managing a civilisation. If you’ve ever asked, “When is it profitable to build a Bank?”, “Should Wine be mined or irrigated?” or “Why is my industrialised city starving?” this booklet is for you.
Tables include Wonders of the World, Spaceship construction details, Tax earnings calculations, Unit upgrades from Leonardo`s Workshop, terrain conversion charts (I`m especially proud of these), the effect of City Improvements and Governments, and even the mix of terrain needed to build the perfect city. - Gramphos
DROPPING FROM SECOND TO THIRD
(6 March 2005, 10:33 | Civ2) In the April 2005 of PC Gamer magazine, Civilization II is placed third on their list of the "50 Best Games of All Time". It had been listed as second the last time around; now, it trails Half-Life in second and DOOM in first.
Thanks to snoopy369 for the news tip. - DanQ

TRANSLATION EFFORT BEGINS
(4 September 2004, 23:00 | Civ2 | 33 comments) A German-language strategy guide for Civilization II is one project that Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) forum user `ramses II` has decided to take on. Since Apolyton and its members are the source of all civ knowledge, I`d like to translate some of the really very excellent threads, he writes. It`s nearly impossible to name all the masters of civ who share their experience with the common folks like me.
Authors of would-be included threads who would rather not have their work translated is asked to let `ramses II` know of their position via ACS` forums. The non-commercial work will be titled "The Civilinic Books". There will be two differ[e]nt versions[:] one for downloading, one with some PHP-Functions and a MYSQL-Database for online reading, the compiler notes. - DanQ
