Call to Power II
Review it ____ Rate it ____
Description:
The second civ game from Activision. Quote from the official site:

"Call to Power II was designed from a lot of feedback from those who played Civilization: Call to Power. We incorporated the most common requests, including a major upgrade to the diplomacy system, a more realistic combat system, national borders, automated city mayors, and a number of improvements to the game's interface. You can find out more about these changes on this web page."

  1. ( Locutus, 06-20-2005) CTP2 in itself is an alright game (not too sterling but alright). There is, however, and independently created MOD called The Ages of Man (which you can learn about here: http://www.theagesofman.net/index.html ). The AoM MOD is as brilliant as it is enormous (426MB zipped) and makes CIV2 into the single best civilization building game this gamer has ever tried!
  2. ( Locutus, 06-20-2005) CTP2 in itself is an OK game--not too sterling but OK. There is, however, an independently created MOD called The Ages of Man (about which you can learn more here: http://www.theagesofman.net/index.html ). The AoM MOD is as brilliant as it is enormous (426MB zipped), and makes CTP2 into the single best civilization building game this player has ever played!
  3. ( fjarrkontrollen, 02-12-2001) Having played through CTP2 for the first time, here's my impressions:``

``Pros: ``Nice graphics, although some of the units look rather horrible (the cyber ninja, for example...).``Good sound FX, way better music than CTP1.``Better interface than CTP1.``Highly enjoyable and addictive - in other words, it's Civ.``

``Cons: ``Interface still far from perfect.``Gets very sluggish as your empire grows large.``Plain stupid AI, at least at the "hard" setting. It kept sending loads of empty troop ships into waters deeply infested by my subs and was totally unable to put up any kind of air defense whatsoever.``Not very much new, it's more of the game that CTP1 should have been.

  4. ( tombola, 02-06-2001) Actually a very good game. But to be honest I am giving it an extraordinarily low mark on the basis that Activision has soured its public once too often. ``

``I would NOT recommend a friend to buy this. instead they could borrow my copy for the one week they will play it before getting sick of the stupid bugs. ``

``Activision- the paying public ARE NOT beta-testers, repeat- we ARE NOT beta-testers- WE have actually PAID you money for this game- WE DEMAND support for it. OK?``

``P.S. Why did you have to ruin the STar Trek name with your offerings too?

  5. ( Ironclad, 02-05-2001) Not more than 8 Civilizations! Not good!``Sorry for the Headline. ``The diplomacy "tool" is realy powerful, but diplomacy doesnt make sense with just 7 "enemies". As an civilazitioner from the begining of good old sid: "to few things have been improved" ``but: nice game, somehow i like CTPII.``its not a buggy CTP(one)
  6. ( Jon_UK, 01-26-2001) I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with CTP II. It is far too easy to win at the "impossible" 8 civs and marauder level. This is not``because I am too good it's just that the other civilisations are too docile.``The game is all over bar the (tedious) mopping-up phase by 500BC. ``

``This is why.````Barbarian units attack on site even when outnumbered so are hardly a threat, other civs don't defend themselves intelligently. eg You attack a city with say 6 units only to find there are 12 units defending it. You retreat straight away. On the next turn the defenders do nothing when the obvious move would be to destroy your 6 units with (say) 10 of theirs. Also other civs don't seem warlike at all and only interest themselves in building new cities from scratch. ``

``I know the intention is for people to play online if they want a more warlike game but to be quite frank a good game of CTP II takes several hours and is only fun when you think you're going to win. Therefore as soon as it becomes apparent that you can never win a particular game people will simply quit.``

``If it is possible to make a version of CTP which limits development to ancient/medieval science, with ambitious/warlike/INTELLIGENT AI civs and maybe a Barbarian nation (complete with a few well defended starter- cities) with logical ambition, archers and a sense of self-preservation you would have a "classic" and I would give that game an 11 out of 10.``

    ``Verdict - Wasted opportunity - sorry

  7. ( rcampos, 01-05-2001) Okay, let's be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed CTP 1 to its very limit. Now that I tried CTP2, I have to say I'm a little troubled. Not only have a lot of features been removed (namely HOTSEAT, which in Europe is very popular, given that online gaming here is a pain in the neck, slow and expensive), but it also doesn't give anything new! Not much anyway! The city / diplomacy management seems to have gone back a bit to Civ 2, with some improvements, but nothing much. Really, the game is poor... And I agree with most of the other reviews on this page...
  8. ( Pico, 01-04-2001) I played Civ and Civ II a lot; I never played CtP (only the demo, which I didn't like), so I can't compare it with CtP II. - In order to get used to the game, I started on the easiest level and finished it without any technical problems; I switched to the second level, found it too easy and went directly to "impossible"; there I had some rough time at the beginning, but after I destroyed the first opponent civilization (Americans, of course), it was easy going again - much too easy for my taste, at least until I was utterly defeated by the saving bug. OK, that one was patched up, but it should never have happened in the first place. - Even after the patch, I did not feel like playing the game for a long time (this is why my review is so late); when I finally did, I found it to be nice and easy, an ideal relaxation - AI is much too weak to be considered a real challenge. (On the other hand, I have to admit that it doesn't cheat, at least not as obviously as in the Civ series.) For me, the game works fine on this level, but in spite of all its eye candy and new ideas, it can't be seriously compared to real heavyweights like Civ II. - As for the rating, it's one (I would rather give it a zero - was it really tested at all?) because of the bugs and an eight for the game itself, so let's be generous and say that the final result is as shown above.
  9. ( K9, 01-03-2001) Hi boys n' girls.````I'm a big CIV fanatic - the best game concept EVER !````But i have to ask myself;``Where have all the units gone ?````There are WAY too few units in the game.````Why not let the "Western Powers" (like americans/english etc) have F-fighters ?``F14/F15/F18 + Hawkeyeplanes and so ?````And then let the "Eastern Powers" have MIGS and Sukhois ?````How about a specialunit like a sniper or Green Barets/Spetnatz ? That could move unseen in woodland terrain ?````Yourself as a unit - one unit you should keep the whole game ? If You where at the frontline, the morale would be boostet or in a "Führerbunker" like Hitler was ?````How about misslesilos for your ABC weapons ? A tile improvement ?````I could talk forever, but overall a good game - which hasn't used it's full potiental. I will look for a CTP2 extension.
  10. ( sleeperservice, 12-20-2000) Well its much more playable than ctp2.``But its very easy and it crashed 2 times in 14 hours of play.``The diplomacy is better but it does not make you feel that you talk with real people like SMAC.``So playability for my is about 1 week.``Fortunatelly i have an internet connection and can download scenarios from the internet. That could increase playability to months.``But overall i do not recommend it unless you are a civ fanatic.
  11. ( David_murphy, 12-13-2000) I've just spent a few days playing and i'm not altogether happy. With the braging about extensive play testing one would think that at least the basics would be covered. I've hotkeys that don't work; units that can't bombard unless they're set aside in their own army... making them easy targets; never knowing when or if i've been bombarded or if i've lost a unit. Mayors set on growth who build army units all day ( this with all seting oddly?) I was forced to micro-manage just to thin my army! And they never built buildings to add science... strange? I sadly beat it on hard before 140 BC on my first try. And above all no "GO" command... my fingers HURT from draging units uhhhg. ALL n' All I feel like finding ol' Civ2 packed away, at least it didn't hurt when I played. Don't get me wrong, there's been some work done, just not enough.
  12. ( Sebastian, 12-08-2000) It's a good, solid game, much better than part 1, that was almost unplayable.``The major problems are solved, like the menues, the diplomacy and the number of bugs.
``But in comparison to the general conception of Civ2, it's still weak:``Why can old, weak units defeat modern units so easily?
``Activating units in cities needs a lot of clicks too much.
``Diplomacy is ok, but not better than in Civ2 - but not half as good as in SMAC.``The tech tree is illogically concipated (why do you need slave work for mines or fascism for democracy? Dark image of human history ... ;-)) and some special units just stink (lawyer f.e.).
    ``
``But it's a nice addition to the series that will fill the time until Civ3 will be released.
  13. ( ThaddeusAlexander, 12-03-2000) An awesome game, all around. A VERY nice change in city management; I was getting sick of moving the little men around, honestly. The AI is better, and I agree that space cities were not needed. More stress on cool undersea units is a nice touch, but I have only two complaints.``

``The first, the new wonders. I like how they last almost forever, with downed characteristics, but I still have the complaint that I usually put; LIBRARY of ALEXANDRIA...the most common example of the power of a wonder, and the utter chaos that insues the distruction of one. This is why I not only hope you replace Aristotle's Lyceum with the Library, but to give an attacked city a chance of losing a wonder due to pillaging, especially if there are no walls. When a city loses a wonder, the effects are negative happiness, period.``

``Secondly, WHERE ARE MY LEGIONS??? Samurai are nice, and they were a nice change if you didn't want a legionaire, but legions (and the phalanx, chariots, triremes and such) marked defining moments in the history of war. What the heck is a coracle? They aren't even drawn out properly!``

``Its simple; more units not only adds character, but more tactical decisions that need to be faced. I don't think there is such a thing as too many unit types.``

``Lets be honest! no matter how much you want us to believe that your civ's name is only for looks, we all still think of the english as the english we know today. the same goes for oriental races, the greeks, egyptians, and so on. Even your ads show ancient Egyptians as the type we associate to our own world. HONESTLY, I cannot play the Romans and use Samurai; I simply refuse to because its doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't fit into my mind.``

``But after this rant, I still have to say that it is certainly the BEST civ game ever released, and I know I will stay up long nights trying to beat that next level of difficulty.``

    ``Good gaming!

  14. ( alienauthor, 12-01-2000) CTPII IS better than CTPI. There are bugs, however. In addition, the first game I played I conquered the world by 1 A.D. on Medium with 6 players. I could never have done that well that rapidly on CTPI...pretty good I guess, but I wish AI could challenge more. I am playing on Hard now, and AI has yet to bring on a decent invasion! They sneak and grab a poorly defended interior city, but that only allows me to boost my score with an easy reconquering. Where's the blitzkreig?``

``Where's the "goto city" button for units? Click and drag is giving me carpal tunnel syndrome!``

``Let's see some real scenarios...(Alexander OK, but Samurai pitiful, if I want RPG, I'll play AoEII).``

``Hurry up with a bug patch, please. I can't toggle between units and cities. I have to click on a city, then click on units, then hit "n" for next unit, just to start the auto unit rotation. It says use "U", but it DOESN'T WORK! If someone has solved this, please let me know!``

``Love the mayors and diplomacy, though I wish the mayor wouldn't build useless catapults when I have it set to "Growth"!

  15. ( Mango, 11-30-2000) I have been playing the Civilization games since Sid Meier's first masterpiece came out. I had high hopes for CTP2 when I bought the game a few days ago. I played the game twice with no problems and liked most of the improvements from Civilization:Call to Power (although the wonder movies are seriously weak). However when I tried to play the game a third time I got a dreaded illegal operation due to some problem with a DirectX file. I tried the fixes listed at Activision to no avail. Customer service tried to help but their ultimate solution was to reload Windows on my computer. I have other programs that use DirectX just fine so I am not going to reload Windows. My advise is to wait until a later version comes out where maybe more bugs have been worked out. I think the game has potential when they get it running reliably.
  16. ( CBF1985, 11-28-2000) Well I thought CPT 1 was an ok game. I did not think it was great but I did not join in the mob cursing the game. I however see several imporvement over CPT1 and civ2. One of the good things about CPT1 was the public works. They have kept the idea in CPT2 but on of the most annyoning things is that now you can only have PW in your borders. ``

``That brings me to my next improvement witch is borders. I think these are a big plus. It is easier to keep no trustpassin agreements when the borders are clearly marked. This is a big plus over CPT1 and civ2.``

``The two other things I noticed was the AI and Diplomacy. The diplomacy is so much improved over ALL Civ game (alpha century second). With the counter proposes the game is much more interesting. With that the AI scipt is a little diffrent. First it is much harder to be on good terms with other civs in this game. Second cities are much better defended. This makes it harder to wipe out the map with 15 units. While the AI can't exectly go on the war run it least it looks after itself. ``

``I would say this game is far better the CPT1 and when compairing it to civ2 you really can't because this game is 4 years new. Still the one thing I feel is missing from CPT2 is the person you love to hate. The person who it is your goal to destory. For that I really miss and hope they keep it in civ3.``

``So if this is going to be you first civ game or it isn't your favorite type it won't knock you off your feat but if you are a civ fan it will keep you going.

  17. ( JamesG2458, 11-27-2000) Generally I like the game.``

``That said there are many units removed from the game that make play strange. (Galleons, Caravel, phalanx, legion, crossbowmen, bi-planes, between infantry and machinegunner WWI infantry?, early armor before tanks, peasants or light infantry, national guard, etc.)``

``Samurai?? only one nation had them, but many nations had phalanx and legions. Mounted Archers are weak (history the mongols conquered everyone they tried to conquer with mounted archers.)``Cheap infantry units (peasants and now National guard) have defined warfare in many eras.``

``I think they missed a big chance to add lots of new units and periods of combat that would increase playability and realism. More units give more of a tactical range of strategies.``

``I have enjoyed playing so far, time will tell.

  18. ( BLackraven42, 11-26-2000) Very bad game. I hated the way that Activision changed all the wonders, so I wasn't used to what they do. They screwed up all the units so that good units now stink.
  19. ( apple, 11-26-2000) history:
``- i like both TBS and RTS games, though I am a TBS player first ... and than a RTS player.
``Don't really use multiplayer options on the games.
    ``
    ``review:
``I loved Civilization when it first came out on the Macintosh. The PC version of it stunk at that time... compared to the Mac version.
``Moved on the Civ II for the PC and loved it.
``Civ II test of time wasn't really worth being called an upgrade or an expansion pack ... it should have been called a MOD pack !
``Played Alpha Centauri and its exapansion pack ... and it was different enough with new concepts to have fun with it.
``Played CTP 1, and loved the game... there were lot of good improvements to the CIV genre, the sea cities, the space city, tunnels ... maglevs and the works ... It was a breath of fresh air to the Civ concepts. There were some annoying bugs ...but overall the game was definitely very good.
    ``
    ``- CTP 2
``Now I have read all the preceding reviews and also the rhetoric regarding IGN's review of the game.
    ``Well here's my 2 cents.
``I agree that the IGN people did not pay much attention to the game. An appropriate review of the game should have included a comparison to CTP 1.``In my opinion IGN was being generous when they gave it a 6.
``There are no significant differences between CTP and CTP 2. I wouldnt even call it an expansion pack !!!, its more like a MOD pack. Bet the only people who worked on it were the graphics artists, changing the look and feel of the game ... so Activision can siphon $49.99 from games to add to its bottom-line.
``Someone who now owns both CTP and CTP 2, I would buy CTP anytime over CTP 2
  20. ( cityhelper, 11-25-2000) A good solid game. I first got lulled into the Civ world in 1989. Since then I've played Civ, Civ2, CTP and now CTP2. I am a hard core Civ fan that's played these games for 11 years, so I'm kinda hard on features and playability issues and hold Civ as the standard.``CTP absolutely sucked in my opinion compared to Civ and Civ2. I was hesitant to purchase CTP2 but all the talk about country borders, and improved diplomacy skills sparked my interest. Now that I've played the game I can honestly say that I'm pretty impressed. Although there are a few parts of the game that could be better (what game can't improve in a gamer's eyes), as a whole it's a sleep stealer (not an all nighter, but a 2AM'er). It's worth the money!
  21. ( Kautilya, 11-25-2000) CTP2 has a few problems but overall it's a solid improvement in the empire building genre.``

``The interface is easier to use than Civ2/SMAC, there is less tedious micromanagement and even the AI appears to be a little better. The diplomacy model is probably the best there is. And of course needless to say the graphics are a lot better than Civ2. So in all the important areas, CTP2 is an improvement over any of the other games. What more could you want?

  22. ( L'Empereur, 11-24-2000) Civ made me warm and fuzzy inside; Civ II made me extatic; CTP I made me want to throw up. That given, I am finding CTP II to be a fun game with a touch of that aold addictiveness magic.``

``Features (where different from CTP)``-Better Diplomacy, robust selection of choices and counter choices
``-better combat system (no more pikeman blues)
``-longer ancient medieval eras (more value in older units)
    ``-great trade system
    ``-keyboard remapping(yayy)
    ``-BORDERS!! (halleluyah)
``-no more space (i found it extraneous, so no loss for me)
    ``-large tech tree``

    ``(the moans)
``- not all bombard units can bombard land/sea (SoL)
``- UI still has problesm.. why no single city view.. a few too many clicks (however with experience it becomes usable)
``- AI doesnt seem to understand sea borders w.r.t sea borders
``-diplomacy can be frustrating due to some lack of colour in replies (REJECTED = like "Syntax error???")
    ``- no very agressive AI
``-Tech tree has major historical continuity problems (early fascism especially unbalacing)
``-some units from civ gone (Legion vs samurai)
``-no unit "forward to" order.. this would have been a plus``

``Overal i am happy with the game i hope soem patches adress a few of the needed tweaks. My only major complaint is that teh game still has a bit of a blandness to ist interactivity a few colour comments from leaders, pictures or more detailed diplomacy responses would have made this game near the top of my gameplay experience.``

``Overall a satisfying game with some great ideas but still in need of some "colour". If you had misgivings about CTP I i would urge you to give CTP 2 a shot. Despite some comments that its only an "expansion", i feel it has enough robust modification to make it a much more enjoybale game.

  23. ( buddyj, 11-24-2000) I like most of the new interfaces. It plays different enough that it IS an new game, not just an upgrade, so I am happy with that aspect. I have played easy and medium and really like new look and feel. I haven't played the scenarios yet. ``

    ``Nits:
    ``old:
``1) Diplomacy should have a demand to stop slavery, conversion, franchise etc. The AI makes a treaty then attacks this way and if you attacK the unit (what good is expulsion, it just comes back!) you loose regard.``

    ``new:
``2) AI will accept demand to withdraw, but doesn't (but creats a treaty). The old trepass would at least trigger a treaty violation the AI's part. I have yet [even using hostile tone] had a successful withdrawal. I have to declar war and attack the unit to get it out of my boundaries.``

``3) Mayors are great for tile improvements, food and happiness handling, but:
``a) the AI continues to build Factory, Oil refinery, air port even after pollution has become a problem. ``b) It will continue to build inferior, almost obselete units (e.g.: infantryman vs machine gunner, cannon vs artilery).
``You need to be able to toggle off certain units and buildings to keep the AI from auto building them or being able to toggle on what the mayor can control. Towards the end game, I spend more time managing stuff OUT of the que than anything else.``

``The mayor is GREAT expect the nit above: It is the FIRST time I've never had a riot or ran out of food!``

``Expansion pack idea: Race to Mars then terraform it, then colonize it!``

    ``All around good game play!

  24. ( alexdefoe, 11-23-2000) The game is not yet out in oz, although it looks good from the apolyton site. I have not played the first call to power yet (too busy conquering majora's mask) but I have played Civ2 which was cool for about a year, till it's lastability ran out.``

``Excpect my full opinion in a couple of weeks on this page our on mine.

  25. ( jkadabomb, 11-22-2000) Overall awsome game. The biggest improvement is the much easy to use interface. And the soundtrack is awsome. The graphics are also much better and battle animations as well. The game even runs fine with 8 kingdoms on a gigantic map on my k6-2 3dnow with 64megram and 2meg vid card. Complaints are the unit managemant and army management is way to confusing like for example how can you tell if a unit is fortified in your cities? I guess I really havent figured out that part yet. Also diplomacy isnt as good as it has been cracked up to be. I would prefer that you talk to the civ then make proposal rather then only talk by making proposals. Just my opinion I guess. Also other issues but they can easily be corrected with a patch.
  26. ( Pintello, 11-22-2000) Diplomacy is great. It is everything that it was claimed to be. Another improvement is that you now have a lot more time to play. I have played this game for 5 and 1/2 hours and I am still in the Ancient Age! That is one of the largest improvements in CTP 2.

``Military is also improved. Being able to create armies is very nice. However, the only people I ever got to fight while I was playing were Barbarians because I ended up on a large but isolated contienent. The AIs used slaves and faught a lot among themselves though. The Maya were really having a hard time with the Aztec.

``The new graphics were nice as well and quite a bit cleaner. My favorite graphic improvement was the way the world map in the bottom left of the screen can be minimized and maximized at will.

``Finally, I think the two most significant improvements are the borders and Diplomacy.``

``There were two things that took some getting used to. Those were the UI and the realated issue of City Management. The biggest thing I missed was having a concrete number telling me how many turns till a city was grow one more size.``

``There were two things that I think still need some work. The Advance Tree needs to be filled out some more. Also the units need to be filled out some more as wellThere are some really good threads about this in the forums, so I will not elaborate on this here.

  27. ( John-SJ, 11-21-2000) When I bought CtP2 I didn't know exactly what to expect. Having experienced C:CtP for a short time (I didn't like it) I was VERY surprised at how good CtP2 really is.``

``It introduces a lot of new elements to the Civ mold, it reduces micromanagement in some areas and invites the player to take a more global role in his gameplay. That's not to say that there is no micromanagement, there's enough to satisfy the perfectionist streak in all of us, but the new game elements require a new mindset, and a new management style. And I find it refreshing!``

``Activision has done a tremendous job with the AI programming, I don't think there is any better available right now, and diplomacy is a satisfying experience all it's own.``

``To anyone who is not sure if this is the game for them, I'd recommend you try it, I really think you'll like it! A LOT! If you have to, drop a hint that this might be a good Christmas present. ;)

  28. ( 11-21-2000) ConquistadorPizzaro has written this review.
The overall playability of the game has been much improved. That is to say, the "B-2 Bomber gets a$$ kicked by Musketeer (or 'infantrymen' as they call then now) has actually been removed. What a relif it was when my fascist completely annihilated the pikeman! Surprisingly, even though proabaly 50-60% of the art is the same, the game looks much better. Everything is cleaner. Especially the interface. There are also some really nice touches that only become apparent when you play for a while, but I won't explain them here. I rather be playing! And you should too! Buy it!
  29. ( Visceral Monkey, 11-21-2000) Fun game, very fun. A big improvement of the original Civ II. But wait...isnt this supposed to be an improvement over CTP I? Well, it fixes some problems and tweaks the game..but I gotta tell you, this IS THE SAME GAME. I'm all for improvements, and the GUI is much better. Still, it hardly add anything that more interesting than the first CTP. My opinion: If you havent played CTP I and like the original Civ series, BUY THIS GAME! It's great fun! If you already have the first CTP I, DONT BOTHER. It fixes some minor things and takes away the space aspect...but really, it should have been a free upgrade and not a full fleged sequel, because it just isnt.
  30. ( Robi, 11-21-2000) I would actuall say a 8.8 or so. Much improved, very good diplomacy, good "addictiveness", much more balanced than original. Extension of ancient/Rennaisance periods help game immensely - so the cut of the orbital cities was worth it. New UI is VERY good, much easier to navigate - though the deletion of a city VIEW as well as more robuts demographical statistics was quite disappointing (Hey, the cheesy Civ 1 "materialization" style city view was really great. I miss it.) Is the game perfect? No way. Is it deserving of the Gamespot and IGN reviews? No way in hell. But, IMHO, this is the best TBS game on the market, and yes, I'll say its better than SMAC.
  31. ( Anunikoba, 11-21-2000) The game is definately inovative along the lines of classic CIV. Some really good ideas are being implemented here, but not without flaws. Some of the basic concepts that really added to the CIV playability and ease of management incorporated by the developers of Alpha Centauri should have been copied, and then added to in this game. Many problems with game exist, my guess, because the development was rushed (or so that is the impression I get from playing the game and reading the skeletal manual). But hey, Activision is known for this kind of thing- just look at Star Trek: Armada. ``

``We forgive you Activision! Now where's our patch?!

  32. ( Skinipup, 11-21-2000) Well, I would like to give this 2 reviews. One for "THE game" and a second for "Multiplayer"...``

``First off, the game playability is pretty close to the original, for $50 USD I feel a bit ripped off. It could have been just an expansion pack. ``

``The screen looks a tad better (cleaner) and some new units are cool, but they took out some of the best stuff :(``I also miss moving the little guys to collect food when I want, something that has been in EVERY CIV game to date!``

``Multiplayer is about as frustrating as the first CTP. Between the resyncs and crashes I have almost had it with Activision saying a game is multiplayer with all the bugs. Do they actually test these games ?!?!?!?

  33. ( culturek, 11-21-2000) Gotta get back to Pla...
  34. ( ChaingKaiShek, 11-21-2000) I dont care what anyone says, CTP II is much improved over CTP I. :P And besides the few bugs I seem to have found,( Wont mention them here ) I love the game; And would encourage everyone I come in contact with (Who likes TBS games) to buy it..
  35. ( Yatermie, 11-21-2000) Give me former type improvements as well as PW's and i'll be happy. Oh.. and we need six eras not just five(ancient, renaissance, industrial, modern/nuclear, genetic, diamond(find a new name pls).``

``I guess this is what modding is for huh guys?

  36. ( EdCase, 11-21-2000) Before we begin let me state the review mark and my opinions relate to comparisons to its predecessors..CivII,SmAC,CTP et al``

``Ok first impressions upon opening of box...poster looks cheaper :)But.....``on first playing (immediately at impossible..can't help it..just like to be humbled I guess).Balance and tech curve seem better thought out.I begin to like this game un-"modded". One gripe....coracle? I thought a coracle was small and round``

Conclusion overall it is a progression, the designers listened to the players.

  37. ( RockinRomeo, 11-21-2000) Where's the top 5 city stat?!!!! That was always my favorite gauge of who to attack first!!!! ``

``It's a great marriage of Civ II and CTP that's definate!!! Fans of Civ II over CTP will definately like this one!! ``

``The fact that not all sea units can pillage and bombard cities is excellent!! Same goes vice-versa for land units! ``

``Also the "Feats of Wonder" are a very good idea! I've only played once so far and of course..he he, kicked arse!! It's very challenging though! I can definately tell that the AI is better!!! ``

    ``C-ya all on multiplayer!!

  38. ( Troll, 11-21-2000) Ok..I am the original Patton, DrDanger and Red October from Call To Power..so I am a long time Veteran player...I loved CTP:1..Now..along comes CTP:2..and yes I love this so much too... I am almost done my first game and think graphics are sweet. As for controls they are a wee bit different to get used to..I also enjoy the access buttons and Management system for the cities as well as the Mayor..and not having to attend to citizens by right clicking city. I love the Feats of Wonder..pretty cool feature.(Tipping Hat to Activision). I am on Medium and am having mixed feeling on Diplomacy..Its probabaly realistic though..just cannot get nations to give me anything except Map exchange..but no problem..I am here not to please..but to Control and Conquer!!!...My suggestions to any out there like myself who want to have a L-O-N-G Period of enjoyment..and look foreward .."TO ONE MORE TURN....!!!"...purchase this game and you wont be the least bit dissapointed!!
