  1. ( Warspite, 09-01-2000) One word...EXCELLENT! This is definitely a MUST have for anyone who already has Alpha Centauri. It adds more of everything making it the best of the best. What are you waiting for? Stop reading and go and buy it now!
  2. ( ProvostHarrison, 07-26-2000) A fine extension to the original game, Alien Crossfire introduces some new interesting concepts, technologies, weapons/armour, buildings, secret projects and factions. It would have been nice to see some new functions such as being able to have all factions in a game (14 players), but I also understand the task of writing this would be phenomenal. A worthy effort.
  3. ( WhiteElephants, 07-25-2000) I like it because it tastes great and is less filling.
  4. ( Googlie, 07-24-2000) Definitely an improvement over SMAC in terms of depth and breadth, altho I don't find the new factions - other than the Aliens - as appealing as the originals.````Came with many of the early bugs cleaned up, but still left a few annoying ones.
  5. ( Dave, 06-09-2000) the only reason for this rating is because I havent bought it yet but I am going to so Ill come bake when I have OK
  6. ( Bkeela, 01-29-2000) For me SMACX was a dissapointment. Firstly, I was shocked to discover that certain graphics had been tinkered with, giving the game a messy look. The original sea mining platforms had been swapped with inferior artwork, and the alien pods had been changed from the tidy sprite graphics, to the ugly 3d look. But what really made SMACX un-playable for me was how all the native lifeform additions bogged down my computers processing time. Although this problem is as much the fault of the pathetic AI as it is of bad programming, the end result is having to wait up to 2-5 minutes for the AI to process its turn. This should not be a problem with my 300MHz machine. So to sum up; all these annoying problems, along with the fact that SMACX is infested with bugs, (without the new patch, even advertised features are not operational), left me no other option than to delete SMACX off my hard drive, and to bitterly regret wasting my hard earned money on it.
  7. ( ProvostB, 01-28-2000) gets boring pretty quickly.``i'd recommend aok over smac/x.
  8. ( 01-23-2000) Doug Turnbull aka has written this review.
Tim Trains first project adds so much to Brian's epic strategy romp through Alpha Centauri. Simple additions like the faction editor which lets you add custom factions to the game in a snap and the ability to completly randomize the factions in the game add immensly to SMAC's replayability. On top of this, a whole world of depth has been added to the native units. Spore Launchers, native artillery units that launch spores your way, see lurks, large sea creatures that roam the oceans ravaging ports, and fungul towers, the source of fungul growth in an area give planet many more weapons to throw at you. The new techs/weapons/facilities also give the game great new flare. Ocean bases have been given much greater importance and ability. Also 4 new secret projects add new dimensions to the game. Not to mention the new interludes and storyline surrounding the two new alien factions. All this great stuff will keep you addicted to SMAC for YEARS to come.
