What can I say? There may be better strategy games out there, but if so, I haven't found them. Since acquiring the game the week Alpha Centauri was released, I've played almost nothing else. If you don't already have it, the Pack is a great way to get a great game for so little money you should probably buy two. Or more. Nuff said.

From the superb opening introduction to the great graphics, diplomacy and gameplay, SMAC Planetary Pack has it all. This package contains everything for the game: manuals, guide, ALL factions, and it's completely patched. What a deal! If you don't have the Planetary Pack - what are you waiting for?

This has everything in it that I wish Civ II had. I love the fact that you can automate as much or as little as you like. I also love the option to win by conquest, trancendance, election to supreme leader, or by cornering the energy market. The PP is such a great buy for all that comes with it. I'm a little (just a little) dissatisfied with the strategy manual because it seems to gloss over some things, but it is still a good reference. You can't beat a $30 price tag when some places are charging $40 for SMAC alone.

If you don't have alpha centauri, the planetary pack is a great deal! Most collections and other "shovelware" products tend to skimp on packaging and documentation. This is not the case with SMACPP. It contains all the printed manuals, posters, and strategy guide. All of these are printed, no PDFs to be found. Kudos to EA for putting together a good SMAC collection.

This Game is really cool. I never liked turn based games until I tried Alpha Centauri. I almost gave up on the game a few time because on the surface it appears to be a dull game. But, WOW, once I got into it I discovered the richness, depth, and multitude of variations that give the game almost infinite replayability. The vast number of details in the game require a moderate learning curve, but they are also what makes the game so interesting. But the game is not won by knowledge alone; it requires creative thinking and imagination, and there are very few games like that out on the market. This game is special. Give it a try and do not judge it too quickly. The help text is exceptional, and if you browse through it, you will start to understand why this game is so fascinating. I hope the creator's of Alpha Centauri & Alien Crossfire come out with another add-on pack because I cannot get enough.

At the price of Alpha Centauri, you also get the Alien Crossfire expansion pack. Both are have the latest patches(smac v4, smacx v2). If you dont have SMAC already...
