  1. ( AustralianJeremy, 12-28-2003) ToT just annoyed me intensely, and I went straight back to MGE. Dark, ugly, and extremely disappointing. Sold it to some innocent on Ebay ... and felt guilty for some time afterwards.
  2. ( Sebastian, 12-03-2000) This game is the ultimative Version of "Civilization 2". The graphics and sounds are better than in the original version, the gameplay seems to work more "smoothy".``The additional "Sci-Fi" and "Fantasy" game is not really interesting for a long time, but a nice addition.``

``Everything in the game is a good update for the original game, that's the way I want to play Civ2 until part 3 will be released.``

``The fact that they sold it for a lot of money as a new game and not as expansion pack is the reason why I dont give 10, but 9 points as rating.

I was severely dissappointed by this bogus version. The supposed eye candy is far too dark and spoils much of the history factor. Further those units a far worse than most units that are to be found on the web. I hope CIV3 will not be going the same way.
  4. ( Geoff, 10-05-2000) The graphics are the best improvement, but needs scenarios. Please send me links for scenarios if you find any!
  5. ( WarVoid, 09-11-2000) Despite some bugs in the programming from the scenario end of the game, overall, well worth buying. The game is great itself and very fun. A plus and minus is the advent of animated units, which, although are better, cause much difficulty for anyone attempting to edit them. This is not to say that it can't be done. Providing three seperate games (much like advanced scenarios) creates hours of gameplay. By far well worth taking the time to buy.
  6. ( Gothmog, 09-02-2000) With too dark and too fuzzy graphics this is just too hard to see what you are doing when you play. The redesigned unit shields make it hard to tell who's who. Some of the colors on the shield are too similar . Compared to CIV II this game performs sluggishly. ``
``This is a shame because some of the new features such as multiple maps, better events language, more unit slots, more flexible sound mappings are nice. I wish they had stuck to the old CIV II interface but added the improvements.
  7. ( tobyr, 07-28-2000) I play the fantasy game in Test of Time. I really like the third dimension (four maps are stacked on top of each other.) Defense is more difficult.````The fantasy game has seven tribes with really different capabillities, different units to build. Leonardo's workshop is much less useful, which is a good leveler. There are also some really tough barbarians to deal with in this game.````ToT has a new kind of win (a research path). If you don't run out of time, this win seems much easier than building a space ship, because:``- while researching, you can build lots of warfare units``- the AI seems not to have a clue that you are approaching a win.````There is also a 4-map sci fi game in ToT. It seems interesting but not as debugged as the rest of ToT (so that some illogical things happen.)``I recommend 4-map ToT it as a good brain-stretcher, definitely civ2 but different.````If you buy ToT, you MUST download the patch!````- toby
  8. ( SandMonkey, 07-25-2000) I really like this version of Civilization II. It gives a civ2 player a new and different world to play in. The extended game is what I always wished for: A way to play on AC once your ship landed! There's also a sci-fi game, and a fantasy game, each with 4 maps to play on. It really adds another dimension to the game play. I like the new moving units, and the moving specials. They both add a new little bit to an already great game. Small setbacks are: no true map editor for ToT; no wonder movies; not a great selection of scenarios made for Test of Time. But all in all this is a great game.

Nice graphics improvements otherwise the same game. Are the better graphics and making the game longer really all that could have been improved in the 2 or 3 years since the original release. This is still very much Civ II which I guess is what it claims to be. If you already have the original then I can't say this is worth more than a 6. If however you have never played the original then stop reading this and go and do so immediately.
  10. ( Alex, 06-18-2000) Great Game - Improved Graphics, Improved Gameplay and More Options. What more can you ask for?

When I play this game it just rocks! I don't know what you're talking about, the graphics are fine and the scifi scenario is amazing. You finally get to see what happens at the end of Civ2, Alpha Centauri is a great challenge.
  12. ( Nick, 03-29-2000) CivII was awesome and this is just a slight improvement on that no big changes, just improved graphics, which is good.
  13. ( 01-23-2000) Oliver Hausch has written this review.
The graphics are too dark. I can hardly see anything, especially in the beginning of the game. After an hour or so your eyes are sore. Programmers worked years on this game and didn't see that? I can't understand.``Note: Old CIV 2 maps are working with this game, scenarios do not. Hopefully there will be a tool soon.
  14. ( Tom, 01-16-2000) Good game, but not enough any senarios made yet. Nice graphics, neat world shifting, very fun. ( if any body finds a WW2 senario for ToT Please send me a link, Thanks)
