Thousands of years ago, a dreadful war, known as the War of the Magi, nearly destroyed the world. Mages used beasts called Espers to wage war, killing many innocent people. At last, three mages realized the folly of the war, and sealed themselves-- and magic-- away forever. Or so they thought. Thousands of years later, the war is all but forgotten, people prosper, and technology is king. But what about the Espers? Where have they gone?
