After the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife, the ``entire continent of Europe became involved in a war of pointless and ``objective less combat between the belligerent nations of Europe.``With the defeat of the main Russian regiment at Tannenburg, the loss to ``the Ottoman Turks at the Gallipoli peninsula, and the breaching of the ``German blockade, the war has seemed grim for the Allied powers. ``Although the invention of the tank, the new Russian offensive, and the ``repelling of the German attack at Verdun have kept the war from turning ``entirely in favor of the Central Powers.
