The Dutch defeat of the Spanish navy in 1639 has just ended that country's reign as a seafaring nation, opening the door for English, Dutch, and French settlements that had established a foothold in the New World. Meanwhile, The Thirty Year's War continued to drag on through Europe, leaving the newly formed colonies on their own against each other and the primitive, but plentiful natives. You have until 1899, the end of the Spanish-American War, which was the last territorial war involving the area of the map. |
