Description:
This is the very first scenario from Harlan Thompson. It is a very complicated and difficult scenario, which contains a very accurate map of Middle Earth, as well as a complete new set of civilization-specific units, wonders and improvements. Also new techs and many events have been created. This is an all-out war scenario with lots of fights for a total of 137 objective cities and wonders. To win the game it is recommended to read Tolkien's trilogy and to follow the book's storyline.

  1. ( deity, 01-17-2004) Brilliant. Best scenario I ever played... years ago now. I got the ring into Mount Doom but the timer just beat me.
  2. ( Jacobite1688, 01-06-2003) The one fantasy scenario, other then Jules Verne, that is worth playing. Great graphics. A challenge worth the time it takes to become familliar with the mechanics of the scenario.
  3. ( Deathwalker, 05-15-2001) Personally I didnt like it but then I was never really into fantasy mods but as this one got some great reviews I thought I would give it a try.
  4. ( Graeme LeSaux, 02-07-2001) I basically agree with Voltar. If you are not very much into Tolkien this scenario is generally boring; gameplay does not catch you the way other fantasy scenarios do (this regardless of whether you are into the story or not). But from what I read, if you are a Tolkien fan this seems to be THE scenario.
  5. ( Voltar, 02-03-2001) This is a mediocre scenario, personally I disagree with all the hype, for me it got a little boring a little fast. It is above average in quality for sure, but I have seen many scenarios far better, sure for Tolkien fans this may be a godsend, but for your average civ2 player who is not a major fan this is not anything overly special.

This is one of the most interesting Civ 2 Scenarios I have ever played! Much better than a "vanilla" game :>.
  7. ( Joe, 12-06-2000) The best Civ 2 scenario I've ever played! I downloaded the first version almost a year ago, and I'm STILL playing the new one! EXTREMELY challenging, but FUN too. The new orcs look great, and the Nazgul give me chills! A great piece of work by Harlan!

Wonderful. At last we have something worthy of Tolkien

actually only a 9.8, but still amazing with several innovative scenario designs concepts, great sound effecrs and as near as possible faithful to LotR
  10. ( Tom, 10-28-2000) Superb stuff. True to the spirit of the books, and just about all the facts too! Superbly balanced - you'll need a lot of skill to win this one. Ive tried twice so far, and a-l-m-o-s-t did it...``No wasted or superfluous units, cities, regions or events... generally the best civ fun I had since i ripped the plastic cover off the box... More please!
  11. ( axi, 10-02-2000) Awesome scenario! Harlan put all his talent in it, and quite alot of work too! I have just made a review about it at the games section of Imlandris, a Tolkien fans forum. I only want to request one thing: please put up the previous version too, since not everybody has FW.
  12. ( sticky, 10-01-2000) best scenario I've ever played!!Lots of cool new stuff
  13. ( Xuenay, 09-25-2000) I can honestly say that this one of the best (if not THE best) scenarios that I've ever played on Civ2. If you liked Tolkien's books, this scenario is a must-have!

its hard but it is very realistic. Its one I've enjoyed the most so far!
  15. ( Sieve Too, 08-31-2000) What a great scenario for Tolkien fans! Harlan has done an excellent job of recreating the feel of the books. While you play, the desperate plight of man against the overwhelming might of Mordor is foremost in your mind. Although you start with many units, it becomes obvious after the first turn that you are gradually losing a war of attrition. The heroes you know from the book are there. They are powerful, but few. You MUST act and act quickly.````Civ II generals will need all their skills to beat this one. Easy outs like switching governments, using Diplomats, researching super units and setting up lucrative trade routes are not available. The best unit you can build can barely defeat the cheapest unit of your enemy.````This scenario is not easy. Even if you don't outright lose the war, you have a very limited time frame to defeat all of Mordor, Isengard, Rhun and Harad.
