It was too easy when you play as the Germans. After a while, it was just role your troops into the next city just until game is over. It had a lot of potential it CTP bothered to make it a little more challenging. Maybe some people will mod it to make it better.

I never knew Lightning War could be so tedious.``
``The first thing that you should be aware of is that this is scenario does not really model world war two, as its title suggests, but merely the battle of France.`` ``You are given the choice of playing the French or the Germans. I chose to play Germany - who can resist getting there hands on panzer divisions and fleets of stukas?`` ``The first thing you will notice is the detailed map including the Ardennes forest through which, historically Hitler's Wehrmacht swept into France, and the Maginot line, populated with stacks of French troops. Okay, so far so good. But hang on, where are all my cities? Where's Berlin? Hamburg? Vienna? They've only included two German cities. Britain is similarly cut down, represented by just London. `` ``The units for the tanks are pretty enough (two varieties of panzer are available), as are the planes (Me-109 and stukka but no bombers). There are "General" units which make all the units they are stacked with into veterans and the tanks are able to transport infantry units. Just don't forget to unload them or they'll just sit idle when you get into combat.`` ``Unlike other WWII scenarios, there were very few events. I marched into Paris expecting a message about Nazi troops parading, Hitler visiting the Eiffel tower or whatever but instead just got a standard message about capturing an objective city.`` ``Partly because of the lack of British cities, invading London was easy. The only defences seemed to be artillery. Oh and there was no specially written message here either.`` ``Overall, a wasted opportunity here. Other scenarios (written for civ2) have been so much more interesting. This scenario was purely "Tank Movements in France" (In fact the map would lend itself quite well to a WWI war on the western front scenario). No war of the atlantic, no economics, no science advances, no eastern front, no afrikakorps. No contest. dig out thos

This is a great scenario because it is designed to be short which makes the game fun and quick - about an hour of game play. You can win with the Germans in about 25 turns or the French in about 17 turns. It wasn't designed to be a long drawn out campaign. Hell, it wasn't like Germany had a difficult time invading France anyway. Let's face it, France was basically Germany's parking lot. With the scenario you start out immediately with some great units such as battleships and amphibious units and can try several different tactics to win in a one short sitting. In return for this short campaign you get some great new units and you have the luxury to modify it to be as difficult as you like.

Pretty lousy scenario. It is too easy (as the Germans, at least) and not very realistic. Activision should have made a whole world scenario, but they probably would've bunged that up somehow, too.

The scenario itself is poor, which won't surprise anyone who reads this. Poor balanced and as challenging as the original unmodified game.````"So why not give it a 1!" you will say. Because, I will say, they did give us new unit graphics, and I've heard of people who modified this scenario to be really challenging. So, as CTP2 itself, it is poor and unbalanced, but when you modify it, it can be good. And then you have more units, more SLIC examples and more gaming fun.
