Star Trek 5 is on HBO right now!

talk about stupid movies

old men climbing mountains. mmm, yeah that is realistic.

The special effects are horrible. It's a step back from earlier works. Start Trek 2 had better effects. Even The Next Generation (which was on air at the time I believe) had better special effects.

Besides how much sepension of disbelief would be required to see anyone but the USA save the world. I mean really, it just cant happen. Even 007 had the CIA helping out every now and then.

Starship Troopers - Today's US military can wipe out these guys (mobile infantry) in 10 minutes or less.

Gladiator, Braveheart, U571, Pearl Harbor = Raping History.

Clear and Present Danger - Turned a nice piece of Tom Clancy into MIA.

Ok, while I've disagreed with a few, I am baffled at people who don't like Indiana Jones. I mean, what isn't to like about Raiders? It's a great old fashioned adventure story that doesn't pretend to be anything other than that. It does its job convincingly and, IMO, brilliantly.

Frankly, I found "Titanic" to be completely abyssmal. The two main characters were, by far, the least interesting characters in the entire film. The love story was utterly inane. The fact that this piece of dreck beat "L.A. Confidential" for Best Picture still makes my skin crawl.

"Titanic" really must be taken as two separate movies: The pukey, hokey love story and the recreation of the actual events of the sinking.

On the later, Cameron does a decent job, particularly in the physical depictions. His accuracy in terms of events and characters ranges from good to really lame (depicting Ismay as an idiot who didn't know who Sigmund Freud was really irked me). He certainly created, IMO, some breathtakingly vivid moments during the sinking (in particular, the moments when Jack and Rose aren't around).

That's very true. The "other movie" is pretty darn good; I enjoyed that movie. I would have loved to have gotten the chance to spend more time with the ship's designer, owners, etc. And the wreck itself is astonishing--in fact, I didn't have a problem with Cameron winning best director; the wreck alone earned him that much.

But I just wanted to punch Leonardo DiCaprio right in his pretty face every time he was on the screen. Annoying bugger. As for Kate Winslet... a very good actress. She didn't show it in that film, however.

Go watch A Night to Remember. While the special effects are pretty bad (though not for 1958), the movie is so well done and meticulous it puts Cameron to shame. And you can see how many scenes he outright lifted.

The first IJ had a good reputation amongst my friends. I saw it in a USO in the St. Louis airport. They introduce the "love interest" character by having her win a drinking contest in a dive somewhere in the Himalayas. Ok, she looks like the sort of woman who could be a good match for Indiana Jones. Then she puts on a red dress, heels, makeup, and screams for help for the rest of the entire movie. Great. So with no characters to develop or care about that leaves a bunch of mediocre action. I'd rather watch a Kung Fu rerun.

Sorry -- you haven't changed my mind. One of the best movies -- ever, in my opinion.

So what if you're too cold-hearted to confront emotional issues such as forbidden love -- doesn't make it a bad movie.

It was scary up till they met the soldiers. Then it was obvious what was going to happen.

"Here is our pet zombie"..."He'll be chasing us around in the dark later"

There were several times I was amazed no one was infected. Stuff splatters all over the soldiers during one explosion. They laugh it off. At least they should have had goggles.

Why was the hospital so clean when the hero wakes up. Did the zombies mop up? Ditto on the street. No blood stains. No body parts.

I do have one question. What are the other endings? In the version I saw, they all survive the car crash with the gate and are our in some field signaling a French jet.

the alternate ending they showed in the U.S. after the credits was this:

spoiler(highlight to read): instead of Jim surviving the car crash after the chick(s) bring him to the hospital. Jim dies. And the teenage girl asks the black chick what are we going to do now. The black chick replies "We move On" There is no scene with British (or Finnish if you believe that) jets

That's it. Nothing spetacular. Just a darker ending.

Well that's his schtick, I guess. I would argue that Jack Nicholson or Al Pacino essentially plays the same character over and over, too.

Raiders was a great movie, though, especially the whole religious/occult thing with the Ark itself and the opening scene in South America. The other two sequels I could take or leave.
