Rush is without a doubt one of the greatest bands ever
(And there should be no mistaking the greatest progressive rock band of all time for some republican radio show hack...makes me cry)
Some of you might want to check out a Scandinavian band called Anglagard too. Kind of like 70's style progressive rock mixed with folk. Very impressive music.
I also see Dream Theater are mentioned. Quality band with extremely high levels of technical proficiency. Best albums are Images & Words, Awake, and Metropolis Part II: Scenes from a Memory. They have a Rush influence (they played part of 2112 when I saw them live the first time) but they also have a ton of other progressive rock and metal band influences as well.
