*votes Spaced Cowboy*
I'd like to resuggest my idea of having a secret agent who is allowed to discern the identity of one player each round. With two mafias, he needs to be careful that he won't get offed by blabbering too soon. If he waits too long then the two mafias will have too much control over the votes. This also indirectly creates clues, as it might be difficult for the mafias to hide a pattern in their votes.

If it doesn't put too much weight on the GM's shoulders, I like the idea of clues. It also keeps the agent from lucking into the identity of the mafias very early on.

The agent's identity is also hidden. Obviously, the mafias will try to find out who the agent is and get rid of him ASAP. Meaning that a player who is under suspicion will not find it to be of much use to claim to be the agent. Whether he is the agent or not, he'll likely be killed by the mafia next round.
