I think a gurgle resistence can, in some cases, prevail over the occupying force, but it is rare. While we are talking about WWII, it is important to note that the Nazie resistence after the German surrender didnot have much success.

However, this is apples to oranges, because the Nazie Germans and the Allies had similar cultures, so an occupation wasn't as big of a deal to the occupied Germans especially. When people are taken over by a culture that is entirely different, a gurgle war has stronger support because the desire for autonomy is stronger.

Saddan's captivity probably willnot have too much effect on the resistence because Saddan was probably keeping a low profile anyway.

Anyway, I'm glad that Saddam was caught. He was a butral leader.

They have fluctuated considerable from decade to decade due to technology and ideology, and you are trying to compare guerrillas from different centuries. It is just not a possible stretch.

I can not really decide if you are bieng optomistic or pesimistic.
