Come to think of it Hydey was consulted on makeo taking an AI civ - I suggested it on chat and Hydey didn't object!

Makeo had retired and rejioned before I had a chance to object

Yeah, makeo was well behind me when he conceded - I had 8 or 9 cities, he had 2 or 3. makeo in fact took over a civ that he didn't create to start with so with the ai civ he was just going into a second. I think people are being unfair to him. He's a good player.

I'm not really looking forward to being a better player if it means I need optimum starts, hamstringing rules, etc. to make my game ideal. I agree that some aspects of Civ MP can end up being less than ideal when playing against other good players, but isn't part of being good learning how to pull the fat out of the fire? If you were behind a number of cities, fighting a barb infestation, hemmed in, etc, and managed to get back on top EVEN ONE TIME out of many, wouldn't that be a rush? I suck eggs at this game, but I played for 4 hours on Sunday, starting on a pathetic little 3 city island. This is against seasoned players in a no warfare game...spaceships only, no wonders. I know I have next to no chance of keeping even, unless I go against the spirit of the game. As it is, I'll be sending out an army of diplomats, just to catch up. But it is still fun. I get a thrill out of how well others are doing as well. Perhaps once the learning curve has been eliminated, Civ becomes an exercise in ego, rather than a game?
I think everyone is being unfair to everyone in this particular instance. It is all poor communication, nothing else. Makeo and Hydey need to kiss and make up. The guy was off with his kids, for God's sake. I will volunteer my pathetic services the Australian coalition, if only to give them someone lowly and laughable to lord over and defray the animosity that seems to be taking over their spirited friendship! Fin, I recall a game where you had to leave and walk your dogs, so you're obviously attached to your "children" too!
I also point out that, in the dark shadows of this issue, lurking with a likely feverish glee, is the Horse...I'll bet he masterminded the whole thing. Think of the future battles between my nephew and Makeo, whilst Horse merrily thrives in Utopian peacefulness. Don't fall for his clever ruse, guys.

Ya know, Hydey gave me all his cities bar his capital when he spat the dummy in the game with makeo. Its given me a lot to think about, and to try not to think about. The only conclusion I can draw is Hydey's civs must have had manicured lawns.

Just to keep this whole spat in perspective, when someone does something in a civ game that irritates you, or you have some kind of misunderstanding (which happens to all of us at times), Just remember this:
Physics is really really cool.

So, Ming, how long should I remember that makeo stole my techs and started this war? And how long should I keep telling people about it?

Of course Makeo attacked you and stole your techs. That's what he does. But that's to be expected. But I've never seen Makeo break an alliance, and that's the only honor that really matters in a civ game, inside of the parameters of the rules.
