your doctor?

you can like 100 grams of protein from protein powder alone. the rest of it could come from a can of tuna and a chicken breast

that's at least 160 grams right there

it's pretty easy when you look at it that way

have 50 grams of protein when you wake up

and 50 when you go to sleep

How much proteins would eg an egg have, you think?

Depends on how big a can

I think that's why most of them go with protein supplements.

Believe what you like Ted Striker, but don't mislead others.

As for myself I prefer to lift weights. I developed lateral epicondylitis from doing pull-ups and push-ups, but I haven't had a problem since I switched to weights.

malpractice there doc

you can't make a blanket diagnosis about "tennis elbow" based on your own personal experience

you can hurt yourself doing anything

for example there is a high incidence among squatters to get bad knees, deadlifters blow out their backs, and bench pressers bust up their shoulders

Urban Ranger is right it's all in the form

I would take Ted's advice on eggs with an cargoload of salt (my girlfriend's doctor speaks about two eggs a weak to make sure wrt cholesterol ), but you can't be wrong if you go against hot dogs. It's probably the worst food there is out there: full of fats, no varied contents, and weak nutritional value.

However, Ted is right about Tuna. But don't forget, eating too much of one kind of food is bad for your health, regardless of the quality of said food.

Yeah.

Alot of people eat only the whites of the eggs if you want to feel like you're avoiding the cholesterol in them.

Cholesterol by itself doesn't make your body raise its own cholesterol levels, just like taking in fats doesn't make you fatter.

I think refined sugars, white starchy carbs, ESPECIALLY processed fats, and lack of fibre in the diet have more to do with healthy arteries than something like eggs.

But as a general rule, processed lunch meats like bologna and hot dogs aren't going to do much of anything if you're trying to build up.

I built myself into a machine by doing calesthenics and playing vigorous sports 5 times a week. I avoided weights because the guys I saw in the weight room couldn't perform for sh!t in the sports I was playing (soccer and judo). But later on I took a conditioning class from my soccer coach and he showed me some excellent ways to strengthen some otherwise hard to reach places with free weights. So I have to say that weights can play a part in building your body, even for someone who is aiming for a martial arts type of body, fast, flexible and strong.

Remember that there are a lot of different types of pushups you can do. I used to work my way from hands completely together to my hands way out to the sides. Then a set against the wall with my feet straight up to build up the muscles on the tops of my shoulders. I spent a lot of time doing various things for my torso, v-ups, sit ups etc., and always working the back muscles that complement these. It is critical to always work your muscles in various directions, and to work the opposite side of any muscle group. Oh yea, and do them slowly and never rest your weight on connective tissue (tendons), never use momentum, always move yourself little by little while in complete control with your muscles. When you collapse, take a break.

Full PM-box? Change here!

A dozen eggs cost 1.19
You can get chicken breast for 2.00 a pound on special and put it in the freezer

And 8 hot dogs (without buns?)and a pack of baloney will not last for "days"

Maybe 1 day.

I spend 25$ a week on food, and I eat whatever I feel like, including steak one day a week and eggs, milk, cereal, rice, chicken, potatoes, fruit and salad the rest of the days.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Basics of an athlete's (and by extension a weightlifters) diet:

Pasta (preferably wholewheat) and high glycemic index breads (bagels and the like) for carbs
Tuna, chicken (not reprocessed) and eggs for protein
Fresh vegetables (side salad low on fatty dressing is one of my favs)
Water
Milk
Fruit juice for vitamins
Bananas as in between snacks

Increase carbs consumption if you do a lot of cardio work, increase protein if you do lot of strength work. Use protein and/or carb supplements (and others but asking Vlad would be better than me saying things here) to decrease the amount of food you have to take in.

This is what our nutritionist lined out for us at the beginning of the season for rowing. I supplement this with a protein/carb powder thing as well as creatine and chrondroitin/glucosamine capsules. The latter aren't necessary if you are just doing some weights instead of serious competitive training.
