I agree... the Pats/Colts game was probably the best game of the playoffs... the Super Bowl will suck. The NFC was very weak this year.

Pffft.

This super bowl is going to be a close, exciting game. It might not be flashy and high scoring but it should be good football.

Including two teams I could care less about.

At least last year I had the Bucs to hate more than the Raiders.

disclaimer: i am from new england and as such, i am extremely biased

that being said, i find it unbelieveable that anyone could honestly hate the patriots. they have done no wrong as a team. they don't put up huge scores, they don't obliterate the opposing team, they just play great football as a unit. in fact there is some stat out there that says they've won most of their games this season by no more than 10 points. they don't have a huge dynasty backing them up either like green bay or the cowboys. there are no cocky ******* runningbacks and i don't think we boast at all about our winnings. plus we've got great fans
additionally, until this year, the patriots have gotten completely trashed by every commentator on tv. now that they've all changed their tune they expect people to forget that even before and after the superbowl two years ago the whole team was being berated by the likes of jim nantz and his cohorts

so, maybe the superbowl won't be the best in history, but i think that if the patriots win, they will have deserved it after their hard work as a great TEAM.

nah... the two best teams in the NFL played yesterday in New England.

The Panthers are the Cinderella story team, which makes for good PR; but I doubt their offense can get much of anything done against NE. Brady will continue to lead New England to victory.

When two great defensive teams play each other, you have to look at the D's respective strengths and weaknesses. Carolina's secondary is their weak link and won't be able to contain New England's passing game. And in contrast, New England's secondary is superb and will shut down Delhomme's game. Davis is hobbled, so I doubt the Panthers will do much of anything on offense. I see a relatively low scoring game (sub 30 scores on both sides), but I see New England coming out on top. And if it is close, New England has the best clutch kicker in the last few years.

Well, I'm about as happy as a disappointed Bucs fan can be. The right teams (get that, *teams* - must be a foreign concept to you fanboys who drool all over Manning and McNabb) won yesterday and we've got ourselves a dandy of a Super Bowl matchup.

It's a tough choice, but even though the Panthers managed to make me smile by beating the teams I hate most back-to-back, I gotta root for the Pats in the final. You know, division rival and all.

The think the idea of the Pats-Colts game was the best for the play-offs, but the game itself wasn't as entertaining as any of the 4 games last week. The only think keeping the Colts in the game was how they held the Pats to only field goals instead of TDs on their drives. The game itself never really put me in a place of excitement as for most of the game it just looked like the Colts couldn't win.

quote:

The answer is simple: because they win.

Actually, the team I hated most in college football in the last two years was Ohio State. They never won big either, but they never lost. They were a team who didn't seem as good as their record and I felt like they were over rated, but they wouldn't lose. That is why I didn't like them.

I would call McNabb a choker, but I don't consider him as important to Philly's success as Manning is to Indy's... Philly's game is D... but with Indy, their entire success relies on Mannings ability to not SUCK and throw 4 INTERCEPTIONS.

So you are saying that without McNabb the Eagles could win 13 games and go to all those Conference Championship games? With all that offensive... *ahem* talent?

Bull... you are just making excuses because your hate for Manning has clouded your judgment.

Get used to it, Manning is one of the Top 3 QBs in football. 'Your' MVP, Brady isn't the passer that Manning is. Give Peyton the same D and I'd see Manning already winning more than a few Superbowls.

It's like calling Marino a choker or Elway before he got Terell Davis a choker. Just ignorant babble.

Isn't that what people said about the AL in the 2003 MLB playoffs?

I'm picking close game, with a Delhomme pass to Muhammed sealing it. Carolina wins and becomes the new 2000 Baltimore Ravens.

For the unwarrented drooling over them lately. I mean I really didn't care too much about them and then some idiots kept calling Tom Brady the next Joe Montana. That kinda set me off. Montana didn't just win Superbowls, you know? He does have the 2nd highest passer rating in history (Brady isn't close).

That and this whole 'Belichek is a head coaching genius'. I can take the defensive genius (he is good on that side), but no one was calling him a head coaching genius in his other head coaching jobs (which were pretty mediocre).

Why shouldn't they have been? What did they do last year? I mean, looking on it, you can easily speculate the 2001 NE Patriots was a fluke seeing the records of the team before and after.

I'm not thinking either QB is better. I have a lot of respect for both. Peyton Manning was always an example for me because of his great technique. Tom Brady has come a long way from being a sixth round pick to being the "winningest" starting QB in the league today.

Yeah, I meant the 'formula' of running and defense.

Edge and the running attack was basically on par with the Pats. Brady probably would have more yards with Harrison, but not nearly as good as Manning, IMO. Manning has always been a wonderful QB (from his time in college on) especially in intelligence and mechanics.

Funny that last week everyone was falling all over themselves saying how great the playoffs were where every game was close and competitive and now... parity sucks..

This has been a great playoffs, I totally agree. Good stories and some close, tense games throughout.

The Superbowl should be a great game. Neither team plays a 'blow-out' style of football.

Are you dagging me? Oh no, they didn't put up 75 points WHAT A BORING GAME! Every team (with the exception of the Eagles) played masterfully, and just because there weren't 50 million points or crazyass plays doesn't mean the games weren't interesting.

The Super Bowl is gonna be great because of the super bowl party, the commercials, the food, but not the teams.

There just doesn't seem to be the "win one for Elway" or "Manning get's his shot" or "Farve's attempt to leave a winner" type of storylines this year.

I'll be glad when media week is over and the game has begun. Every year the Supre Bowl get's overhyped, and with not many interesting stories to hype, it makes it even worse.

You got two good teams here, and it should be a great defensive battle.

I'm sure one of the players will have a sick child, Arrian. Then we'll all get exposed to soft-focused crap like

"On the field, Al Gator is a playmaker, the one man everybody on his team looks up to change the direction of the game. Off the field, however, this 300-pound lineman can only look on helplessly at his sick little girl."

cut to Al Gator

"I have never been more frightened in my life. My little girl means everything to me and to think that this could happen to her, well it makes the money and the fame look like nothing."

cut to announcer

"Many children get colds, especially during the winter as they spend the majority of their time indoors. But Katie Gator is different: the teams unofficial mascot, a little girl beloved by all. Her torment is the teams torment..."

cut to Al's teammate

"I was there when it happened. We were having a dinner to celebrate our conference title when all of a sudden Katie just leaned over and blew chunks. I think it was the hot dogs."

cut to Al Gator

"I've seen her sick before, but vomiting? No way man, not my little girl! But it was true: she was sick and all my fame, money, and football prowess couldn't do a thing to help her. Do you know how impote... uh, helpless that makes a man feel?"

cut to announcer

"It looks like little Katie Gator will probably make it through this dark chapter of her life. Al credits her will to live and his faith in God in pulling her through..."

cut to Al

"When my wife was giving her the Pepto-Bismol I kept praying 'please God, don't let this f*** up my Super Bowl. Please God, why does this s*** always happen to me?' Looks like God heard my prayers as Katie is now doing much better."

cut to announcer

"The team is using Katies inspiring story of triumphing over adversity as a means to give them that special emotional edge it takes to make them champions. Back to you, Al."
