Leg lifts, as KH mentioned. You can either use one of those contraptions where prop yourself up on your elbows and lift your legs up, or simply lie on your back on a bench while I gently mass...er, um, I mean, and lift your legs up. Be sure to get your hips off the bench when your legs are up.
Another thing you can do is to raise your legs while doing basic crunches. This will work your lower abs more than the upper.
If you have an exercise ball, you can use that for general core strength improvement. Having to balance yourself on the ball while doing crunches really works a lot of different muscle groups, even your lower back.
Just say no to ab rollers and the like.
Oh, and I wear either boxers or boxer-briefs. I rarely wear briefs, for sporting purposes.
