Space05us, even though you are right to be concerned about the pupper being calmer (possible affect of poison) don't forget the other possibility. He has this large uncomfortable lump moving through his insides, and is totally uninterested in being rambunctious until it passes. Fortunately metal is harder than teeth. If he did manage to chew up the metal casing (sharp edges), it could do mechanical damage to his intestines, causing bleeding, etc.
Your biggest concern should be if he DOESN'T pass it. Then it will have to come out, in not too long a time the acidity in his stomach would cause it to start leaking and that might very well kill him, though I am no expert. So watch his crap (literally), and make certain he passes it.

Sorry, had a puppy that ALWAYS swallowed what he chewed, if he could conceivably cram it down his throat. Stupid dog. I agree with Solver. He might have gotten one or two pieces of metal, they will typically pass, maybe some bleeding and upset, but probably nothing fatal. That's worse case. Or he may have gotten chemicals on his tongue, and is sitting there tasting rotten and feeling sorry for himself.
