Well, face isn't the only way to identify a person, you know.
Drogue was a former infantry officer right? He even had an injury to prove that he has seen the action: his left hand was missing. He said this happened during one of the charges, when the general didn't think through the plan carefully enough, and Drogue's infantry division got under attack of the enemy cavalry. They put up a good fight, but most of the men got slaughtered almost immediately. Towards the end, just as Drogue was reloading the rifle one last time, an enemy soldier galloped towards him and unsheathed the sword, aiming for the head. Instinctively, Drogue ducked and threw his hands in front to protect himself. The sword cut the left hand off cleanly at the wrist and the tip went through the left cheek. Drogue collapsed from exhaustion and blood loss and lost consciousness. The enemy cavalry never stopped to check if he was dead and galloped off.
That's how we know it was Drogue. The left hand was missing from the body, and one could clearly see that it hadn't been cut off any time recently.

After a long meeting, the villagers finally decided to execute one of their own. Neither Pave nor the blacksmith were present at the meeting, but their votes wouldn't have been able to change anything, since more than half the village came to the same conclusion: Guynemer, the blacksmith, is a murderer and must be made safe, through execution, as soon as possible.
The angry crowd, led by the village banker, Tassadar, burst into the smithy. Guynemer was nowhere to be seen. It seemed as if he'd left. The mob looked around, and the villagers, disappointed and still grumbling, were about to go home, when they heard someone at the door. Someone was humming a tune and heading for the smithy. The door opened and there was Guynemer, in a very good mood, whistling a tune. Apparently, his trip was successful, and he was quite pleased with himself.
Guynemer closed the door behind him and turned around. His eyes widened at the sight of numerous villagers, all standing there, staring it him angrily. The man gave a grin and a high-pitched frightened laugh. That's when Tassadar cried: "Get the bastard!", grabbed the blacksmith by the hair and tried to smash his head against the anvil. Unfortunately for the banker, years of work at the forge have made the blacksmith's muscles strong, and he was able to set himself free from the grip of Tassadar. But when another eight villagers jumped at him, even his force wasn't enough.
Guynemer was tied up, and his hand was put on the anvil. The villagers wanted him to admit he was the Mafia before disposing of the man. So, they hit his fingers, one by one, with the large hammer, until none were left to smash. Guynemer screamed in pain, but never admitted to being the mafia. The same procedure was done to his toes, still to no avail. Finally, as someone proposed to smash his genitals, too, Guynemer realized that death was better than this suffering and screamed: "Yes! I AM the mafia! Are you happy now?"
"YES!" responded Tassadar and stuck an unfinished dagger, that lay nearby, right through Guynemer's heart.
Satisfied, the villagers went to their homes. There is nothing to worry about now, and so everyone has regained a jolly mood. Upon the riddance of the village from the Mafia, everyone decided to celebrate, and went to Skanky's pub to get some ale. There, a surprise awaited them, however.
On the bar lay a small hammer, drenched in blood. Its head had the shape of the wounds on Drogue's face. Next to it lay Drogue's golden tooth with a small piece of flesh still oddly attached to it, and a piece of paper. Skanky came up to the bar and took the note with trembling hands. He got so nervous, he could barely unroll it. When he finally managed to do so, he saw writing scribbled in blood: "I keep on hearing that they have caught me. But they won't fix me yet..."

Wouldn't you admit to anything, when your genitals are about to be smashed with a blacksmith's hammer?

Well that's a fine how-do-you-do. At least I got to keep my important bits.
Mental note: never leave a Mafia game, or they'll turn on you like a pack of ravenous wolves.
Someday, vengence shall be mine!
