Ah, no wonder I don't know her. I dislike sitcoms and laugh tracks.
They tend to have humor that can be seen from a mile away.

Especially if they have kids in them.

I'm really learning about coping with corruption in my AU501 game (just reached Flight last about 1:30 this morning). yawn Byzantium has gotten quite large and spread over about six mini-continents. The outliers stink without civil engineers.

What is the consensus so far about the worth of police and police stations? Are they at all worthwhile?

Police seems to be a mixed bag. I use police stations for the extra help with WW as much as corruption.

PS are hard to come by in the corrupt outlands.

My empirical experience is that any city with a net output of 1 shield is helpless, and that no amount of improvement helps, including police stations. I usually switch them to max. food and 'harvest' workers or put them on really long-term buildings (banks and the such).

In 1.12, the effects of courthouse and police stations are minimal on far away cities. If you do not build Womens Suffrage, it may help to build poilce station in any captured cities that have enemy citizens for war weariness reasons.

I find much more use for police specialists. I rush anything I build in high corruption cities. I use as many police specialist as possible in those cities to generate extra shields to make the cost of rushing improvements less

Something simple that I've never read: in many cities civil engineers produce precisely ZERO shields. What's going on?

Simple: Civil Enginers can ONLY boost production of city impovements and wonders.

They have no affect on unit production.

You don't see the 2 shields in the "shield box" in the city view, but they are added in to the calculation to reduce the build time of the improvement.

A City (over size 6) would have to be suffering from massive corruption for it to have a factory and provide only one shield. Use Civil engineers to assist building:

1) a Temple
2) Marketplace
3) Factory

After the factory is finished then it should be a good enough producer to finish off the rest of the improvements, It's my experience that a Metro over 20 with all corruption producers and commercial improvements will have corruption from 40-50% (edit: even if it suffers from massive corruption due to distance or rank) . , which is more than enough to keep your civ in the black.

OIC!! Thanks. (Makes sense too. Hmm...another specialist for C4: The Drill Sergeant.)

I saw the shields appear beneath the CE heads, and saw the change in the "turns to go" number. The other part I didn't figure out, especially because it tended to happen on remote islands (in AU501) so I wondered if it had to do with access to a specific resource or some such. Well, now I know!
