I think that's an option in the Tab Browser Extensions (TBE).

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

It's faster... much more so. It leaves Opera and IE in the dust. It's INSANE how much faster this version is from those browsers.

I'm getting what Tis is.

Having said that, I'm quite pleased with Firefox. It is still a bit jerky and there are some resizing issues and I had to trash my old Phoenix program, but it looks like the 1.0 release will be the browser of choice on any platform (unless Apple fixes Safari in the next release).

I'm more and more impressed with open source software. I managed to install X Windows and OpenOffice on my machine last weekend and I don't think I'll ever pay for a proprietary Office suite again. Here's hoping the OS X port of KOffice is coming along soon.

I wouldn't attribute Firefox's greatness to it being open source. It's just a damn fine piece of software.

There's damn fine commercial software, damn fine open source software, but mostly crap on both sides of the fence.

Although I'd figure after you install XWindows and have to use it for a bit, you'll be wishing death upon open source software. OpenOffice also takes literally 4-5x long to load as Office and still has weird compatibility quirks...

I don't know. I've had three versions of it (2.0c; 98 and X) and I haven't been truly happy with any of them. I mean, they work and are reasonably stable (98 was the best), but they have **** unicode support and if you are trying to type in Greek that means silly workarounds and ****ing around with incompatible fonts. When all word processors finally have proper unicode support my life will be much easier.

I don't know If I can be bothered forking out another fortune for another version of Office. I'm thinking of using LaTEX instead.

Having said that, I have yet to try Firefox....

....well that's an improvement, the unicode support for polytonic Greek actually works on Perseus. All the characters and accents are correct, which is unbelievable.

Unfortunately the display quality of the font is lousy compared to Safari and Omniweb, so I guess it's them for Greek.

Yep Firefox is great, but somehow its not okay that it takes up to 40MB of RAM.
Browse for a while with multiple tabs and so on.

Anyway stock Firefox is clearly superior to stock IE as IE doesnt come with popup blocker or tabbed browsing.
The google toolbar makes IE somewhat more userfriendly but then Firefox got a lot of extensions like mouse gestures which work like a charm!

I have switched to Mozilla since 0.7 came out.

Zopperoni: Install the Tab Browser Extension, they do everything you've asked for.

Holding CTRL will open links in tabs, but to make this the default behavior you need TBE.

Exactly. Except that it's much more simple in Opera, since there are less operations to be performed: hold down the mouse button and move the mouve down: you have just opened a new tab

I have only three gestures which I use all the time these are:
a drag to the left: back
a drag to the right: forward
a drag up: reload frame

and I also use the right mouse button.
I like to see the red tail. Gives me some visual feedback.

That's what I do (I use Mozilla, only used Opera once). But mouse gestures are more convenient and faster that wasting time clicking on the on-screen button, or the right keyboard combination. It's very convenient.
