Andy, you just revealed our secret defense system. First we distract you by sending women at you (taking your money and senses). Then we dope you and finally when you don't have a clue anymore where you are and why you are there we give you a final blow on the head before we send you back home. So, are you sure the loss of brain cells wasn't initiated by the ?
I forgot to mention we're also famous for our tulips and windmills, but that's just to entertain the harmless visitors (old farts and women) in order to keep them away from what's really going on.

Seriously though, very nice place Amsterdam. I recommend the 'Banana Bar' - but wouldn't recommend eating any of the bananas, if you know what I mean..

Touristic Amsterdam as is it is known to young travellers is not the correct picture of The Netherlands. I understand what you're aiming at, but to be honest I haven't used any kind of drugs, ever. I don't even drink alcohol. Even though our legislation is quite liberal and tolerating, the truth is far from us all being stoned over here. When I'm travelling, meet people and they hear I'm from Holland, a lot of them start raving about drugs. I think the foreigners keep this image vivid by using themselves, when in Amsterdam. Like it is some kind of touristic attraction you must do while visiting. I live in the centre of a reasonable sized city in the south near the Belgium border. Quite often I'm asked directions to the nearest coffee shop, which isn't because they're interested in coffee, by French speaking people. And it's the French prime minister that condems our policy the most.
Has anyone seen Ali G - In tha house. Great movie, the international convention were all the world leaders got doped due to Ali's tea was a great laugh.
I'm not against the availability of soft drugs. It's just my choice not to use it.

And Andy, you've probably seen more of Amsterdam than I have. Don't come there that often and if I do, not for touristic reasons.

The story holds. Everyone is invited to visit and support our economy. Drink Heineken, use Philips equipment, tank Shell and consume all kinds of Unilever products. Many thanks...

McMeadows, I hear what you're saying. It may not have come across this way, but I don't think for a second that just because the Netherlands has liberal and tolerant legislation that every Dutchman goes crazy because of it.

Yeah I've been over a few times with mates, just to see what all the talk was about really. It was fairly obvious it was tourists who were partaking in the drugs and the filth - not the Dutch. I remember saying this to my friends at the time - the red light district etc seems to be a place avoided by the locals, but tolerated, because of all the bucks it brings in.

And because of that I wouldn't have a problem with it either if it was my town. And I'm not a actually pothead either - stopped smoking the stuff ages ago. Still enjoy the odd beer or 6!

Wow, about 10 seconds after I sent the turn on I received an another e-mail from Andydog. I thought "What an amazing turn around - 10 seconds!!!! ".
