Nope. Was I the only one that played this one?

Clues
1. Late '80s, C64 (perhaps others, but I doubt it).
2. RPG, non-standard.
3. Non-standard is a telling clue here.
4. I had lots of trouble with this one. You will lose party members continually.
5. Combat was realtime and preventing friendly fire was difficult due to characters bent on walking into other characters firing path.
6. Big clue: Sci-Fi theme.

That would have been my first guess, but no. And I'm surprised that it did not come up yet, given the clues...but IIRC the combat was not realtime in BR.

That's right... Buck Rogers was turn-based.

I seem to recall a games workshop "space marines" type game, but I can't remember the name. Am I warm?

Space 1889 ? - Victorian England in Space although i can't remember which format i played on and i might be a few years out with the year - so not an inspired guess really.

The other one that springs to mind is Laser squad but that was turn based i think.

Put an end to popups!

he he 'Found' is a bad thing here Gooogle-ing forfits any guess's you may have made and even browseing retro sights can count against you(as i found out....).

So just deny everything and say it was a slip of the tongue(finger!)

I didn't know they did a C64 version of Space Cruade - it was one of my favourite team/2 player games on the Amiga, i seem to remember the combat was turn based though (where as Space Hulk was Real time - with pause effects)

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Not found (or at least, not confirmed), I just couldn't remember the exact name of the game I was guessing, so I did a search and provided a link.

The "browsing of retro sites" happened after the guess(by way of confirmation), not before (as ammunition for scattershot guessing).

I'm pretty sure it was. Then again it was my friend's Commodore 64 that I played it on... I had a Vic-20.

Im quite impressed they were making games for the C64 in 1992! the 16bits had been out for how long? maybe a couple of years?

Ah.....the Vic-20

Until i got my Atari 800XL, i had only been exposed to british computers(BBC,Electron,Dragon,Oric,Sinclair, Amstrad) - most of which were a bit crap
I was envious of my friends that had Spectrums/BBCs when i only had a ZX81, still i really loved that Atari and the jelousy faded away
The C64(and Vic20) were the Ataris big rivals - I even felt guilty when i got an Amiga........fun days

I'm kinda stumped on this game though - i guess Spaced is on an extended easter egg hunt?

I'm going to go with Mars Saga for the C64. You certainly lose a lot of party memebers, it had a non-real-time battle system, and I guess it woudl fall under "nonstandard"

Heh, I remember my friend who had that game would just constantly hire doctors in one section of town, then take them out to get them killed so he could get all of their money. A good, solid bases for an economic system, I guess

Got spare money?

but the missing 10% isnt my fault

I going to have to use google now to find out what the hell Mars Saga was/is

ZargaX - you'll also find a 'rules of the game' thing just before the list of games guessed so far, just so you know which type of game you can give us to guess.
And well done on your +1[edit: as in getting your first score in the game] score

Nope, nothing yet

Clue 2:
You might say the company that designed it wasn't really mainstream, both literally and figuratively...
