That they are has not been proved yet. Even if some aren't (likely, given that they held a 12-year old), it's possible they won't release them because of what they've seen.

Unless you live in India you're not going to see an average Indian because most of them would be lucky to make the price of an airline ticket to the US over a 5 year period of time. The Indian students you know are mostly the cream of a billion person crop. If you're living in the US though you're in a country where even an average person can go to college, so yes, many of them would be struggling.

I am an American student, and I don't see any of them "struggling to maintain the class status" in which they grew up.

The Indian students are not from the vast underclass, their families are of the middle class or better. I reckon they could move from one end of the middle class to the other with some effort. Still, the gap between the rich and the poor is staggering.

I say India has potential, but it also has a lot of stumbling blocks to remove.
