You know, I bet I can match some of Oerdin's stories with my experiences thus far in the navy.

For example;

When we pulled in this Monday, our propellers hit some sediment by the pier, kicking up crap.

Most notablely a dead body. Yep...dead body...just floated to the surface. Had to call Port Ops and have them fish it out. Found out today it was a reservist who disappeared a few months back....

The Prostitution ring and the Meth Lab happened on another ship, the Stennis. I've heard it from enough people from that ship to make me think it's true.

We did run over a buoy...in fact, one of my Divisional coworkers got in trouble because he had a buoy picture with a "x1" stitched on the back of his command ball cap. Our normal Ball caps have a picture of a TLAM x31

We pulled in on Monday after being underway on a weekend, and kicked up a dead reservist. I've heard a number of rumors about how he died, obviously. None of which I'll post here.

About, oh, in November, we were out at sea and ran over a whale. The ship's log even says "Struck Whale; steaming as before". We had to have our sonar dome checked when we pulled in, because of damage we took. Fortunately (for us), it was probably a juvenile...if it had been any bigger, we'd have had to either go in the yards or even prematurely retire the ship.

No, I'm pretty sure it's dead. A 10,000 ton ship versus a Grey whale? Anywho, I'm told there was lots of blood. (my station on the ship is a little room with blue lights in the interior, I don't get out much, except at night to see the stars.)

If the whale couldn't hear a 10,000 ton beast making 20 kts bearing down on it (at dusk, which is why we didn't catch it.) Then that's simple darwinism in action.

However, our Sonar guys usually ping them, which makes them get out of the way, if we see them in our course. One of the Sonar Techs told me sometimes they curse at us after we ping them. An Active Sonar is very dangerous...it can boil your blood.
