Lewiston-Auburn area has Bates College which offers bachelors and masters. It's a great town. It used to be run-down lumbering town but lately it has been blooming. Two years ago or so there were some local tension when the feds resettled refugees from Somilia there. I know Mainers, I told people just give them some time - the Maine hospitality will overcome any concerns they had that came from ignorance. Sure enough, now, those refugees are widely embraced as they show that they'll be intergrated into the local economy instead of being useless bums. Naturally, eastern African resturants has been opening up all over.

Camden, I don't know too much other than it's in 'Down East' area which is a very rural area.

we do have a gay scene. We have several gay clubs.

Lefty? well we don't have much of that. But there is an underground movement.

Punk? We have a decent punk scene. I assume you mean punk music and lifestyle. We have several club.

We only have 1 major university which can't compare to older universities in states back east or in California. Sorry.

We don't have much for meseums. Except for entertainer musems like Elvis and Liberace.

ahh Jacksonville. I spent 2 weeks there fixing one of our ships (I was stations on shore at the SIMA in Pascagoula, MS) who was in such bad shape couldn't make it around Florida.

What can I say? I didn't see much of interest. Seems like a typical military town, Florida style of course. I remember on the news they talked about the Jaguars football team. I've never been a fan of the Jaguars.

Our chief had his hotel room broken into and lost his laptop. We moved to a little bit better hotel (one that did not have sliding glass doors). But some of the neighborhoods seemed a little bit seedy. To be expected in a town that size though.

It just seemed boring.

According to that site, Jacksonville has 1.1 million people and the mean age is 32. Based on that, it doesn't sound too boring. But you know what they say about statistics and lies...

It's a military town. That may explain the young age.

Norfolk is even a bigger military town. That mean age should be pretty low.

Norfolk area (which includes Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth). has a naval air station, the worlds' largest navy base, an air force base, an army base, a naval hospital, a naval shipyard in portsmouth, a shipyard in Newport News that builds all aircraft carriers, I think it has a marine base as well. And Yorktown has a naval weapons station.

It has one of the highers male to female rations in the country.

It' also a very rapidly growing town. Lots of companies are locating here and that means jobs, which mean people moving here for the jobs.

The housing prices floored me. $300,000+ is the top range? Thats roughly £150,000 which is the average price of a house in the UK.

Nothing. Just my personal tastes. Way too many people smoke especially in gambling hubs such as Las Vegas and Reno. Also I find something unsettling and sickening about having slot machines literally everywhere - it shows how much gambling has throughly permeated throughout the daily life there.

** Have lived in Knoxville and Atlanta. In many ways, I prefer Knoxville (it's so damned convenient it's crazy) but my wife would like for us to move back to Atlanta. Or maybe somewhere else, but a larger city, that's for sure. She'd probably enjoy Charlotte, NC Nashville, TN or Louisville, KY (however, if I were to move to Kentucky, I'd select the Frankfort area, right between Louisville and Lexington, about 40 miles from each.)
