Suffering from ads?

Ufo-Xcom/Pirates/Civ - i can't choose between the three easily, each at the time took up lots of my time

I'm recently re-discovering:

Reunion - fun space exploration game.

Magic The Gathering(Microprose version- bless their never forgotten cotten socks).

and discovering:

Ascendancy - which is interesting with the patch and aggresive AI fix.

Daggerfall - which despite being a suposed Win95/98 game, runs much better in Dos(doesn't crash as much).

I seem to spend more time these days playing old Dos games, they did things in a somehow more gripping way

The Antag patch did help a bit, but the AI is still brain dead. I still like the sound effects for combat, the visuals were quite good for the time.

I have trouble with the mouse now on XP.

If you want, you can get more for free online. Just look up DOS games, on any search engine. There's tons of sites. Be careful what you download, only go for the more popular gaems, the crappy ones are the ones that scred my compy over.

mine is daggerfall i was going to post some others like quake, doom, or civ1 but all those have been since converted to run better under windows and playing the dos versions is pointless.

Very good game, with the expansions. Unfortunately the CD got corrupted so I can't play.

I would say Stunts! I still play that game, trying to beat out the high scores.

I still have not successfully driven some of the courses.

I do miss the top-down view of Civ1. Nothing makes you feel as though you are high up controlling an empire than looking down on your cities and units. Isometric, while arguably looking better, just doesn't give you that same feeling.

(@ a few comments about 2d visuals).

I can hear the gasps of puzzlement from the FPS crowds ah well they'll never know what they missed, too spoilt with lush 3d to even think a game can be in 2d

On the DOS front, I found a copy of '5th Fleet' recently - i've heard its a great boardgame-to-pc conversion, so i'm hoping i can get it running...

I'm not looking forward to the day when i'm going to be running XP(or any future non-dos OS)..........there are some real gems i missed first time around

Civilization is the obvious first answer... But I'm also a big Commander Keen fan. CK4 is the first game I bought.

Some other great DOS games worth mentioning: Centurion, Bubble Bobble, Dognapped and Supaplex.

I think I may have played something like it. It was a 2-d environmnet, and Elmo from Sesame Street guides you through it. It was basically a cdrawing program, without the drawing, just placing, and coloring the pre-drawn figures. Kinda like the Sega Pico. The only really fun thing about these, was trying to draw the most knives or bullet holes inside of Elmo's pathetic furry blus body

Imperialism is an interesting game too......not sure if the second one classes as a DOS game - as it seems to run fine under w98?

Imperium Galactica(replay value was a bit thin, but the intial journey was fun and kept me hooked for weeks).

The first time i played the text adventures by Level 9(or Infocom etc) i thought they were great! Still after about a gap of 10 years, i'm nearly wondering what i saw in them - maybe having an xbox has tainted me?

Im quite sure Imperialism 2 is a windows game. Ive played the demo for the first Imp, and it was windows, but perhaps it first came out as DOS? I dont think so, though.

your correct both Imperialism games were Win9x games - the first one just 'felt' like a Dos game
