quote: Hodge: Will glass slipper fit the Flames?
If you're a fan of the Ottawa Senators or the Vancouver Canucks or any team that's not one of the final eight, and you don't really have a favourite to cheer for, and, in that case, you usually pick the Cinderella team...good luck fitting the slipper this time.
It's Montreal, you say, the way the Canadiens came back against Boston. Sorry. Montreal, with 24 Stanley Cups, never gets to be Cinderella.
Instead, it's the team the Habs are playing, perhaps, but Tampa Bay finished first in the Eastern Conference, for heaven's sake--it's not the Lightning.
San Jose? They finished 31 points better than last season, but the Sharks are at home in a pick-em series - it wouldn't shock anybody if they beat Colorado.
Toronto? With the 1967 calendar ticking to another figurative midnight? Toronto is the wicked witch, and wouldn't want anybody else's support.
Obviously, I'm beating around the bush until it's time for the obvious answer - "C" for Cinderella - "C" for Calgary.
The Flames were all anybody could ever want in an heroic underdog when they got off the mat twice after being flattened by dramatic Vancouver goals.
If they do nothing else, their first-round script will be hard to beat for a victory against all odds.
But already there is more from Calgary - in taking Detroit to overtime tonight and then winning on their 18th shot of the game - just the way they like it - the Flames are the most adorable underdog - they are, to identify the winning goal-scorer against Vancouver and the guy who set up tonight's overtime goal - Cinder--elinas. |

One of the things you learn when your team makes the playoffs year after year is that the first game of a series often doesn't mean much. Look at the Toronto-Ottawa series. Ottawa started with a 4-2 victory and we all know how that ended.

I'm thinking that Philly may well dominate Toronto and only Belfour's magic prevents a short series
As for calgary . .. I am cheering for them pretty hard but I expect that Detroit may dominate the bulk of the series si if Joseph can perform somewhere within a light year of Kipper's level, that may be enough to take the series.
San Jose-- I obviously am not giving them enough respect-- The Avs performed much like the team that Calgary dominated late in the regular season ( and was part of the reason I picked Dallas)-- I still think Colorado will rebound-- They just have so MUCH freaking talent
Montreal-- They are my all time favorite team and I am hoping the thump Tampa-- I think they match up pretty well but tampa had an impressive regular season that cannot be discounted

No way. Look at the first game. Philly played their best game while Toronto can still crank it up a lot.
Eshe was giving up a lot of juciy rebounds, the problem was the Leafs were taking advantage of them. Next game they will.

You may be right but I was waiting for Toronto to crank it up in the Sens series and they never did. Ottawa outplayed them throughout but for goaltending.
Also .. . who knows whether Philly can crank it up even more??

Montreal got handed their keisters kicked but then again, Boston did the same to them in game 1. The test will be game2. Was game 1 an anomoly or are tampa really that good??
I fully expect Montreal to give a better account of themselves before the series is out

^^ Theodore will be in net Sunday. He was fine, the team in front of him stunk. Too many giveaways, no driving to the net against Khabibulin, the Koivu line was completely shut down and the Ribiero line was invisible. Throw in the miserable ice conditions that the Habs are unused to and there's just nothing good for the Habs to take out of that one.
Write it off, take it as a lesson of what not to do, and what your opponents will do to you if you don't smarten up.
I'm a lot more worried about the Lightning now than I was before the series. Lecavalier was a pitbull tonight, and if he keeps it up that gives the Lightning two scoring lines for Montreal to try & deal with; their D could very well get shredded by that TB attack.
