I dont think the Civ choice really screws anyone.

I mean I could have lived with England.

But being agricultural and industrious will let this thing get going faster, and hopefully keep more peoples interests up.

And the possible slaves will have some roleplay potential.

As Nuclear Master already pointed out, I hadn't joined yet. I met a decision some time ago not to participate in SP DGs anymore. Many brains combined vs no brain at all isn't much of a fair game. I was up to make an exception for this game if the English were chosen, because I remember a series of extremely enjoyable games with the English on archipelago maps, full of the mentioned roleplay. I even tried to be historically accurate. The English history is known very well and full of great stories and bright figures. With a word, it was fun. Not only fun, but FUN.

But I don't know much about the culture of the Maya and to have a collective AI beating with the easiest civ in the whole game, roleplaying not over facts but mere guesses and worshipping gods, the name of which I can't even pronounce, has little appeal for me.

Heh. Funny that. I'm not nearly good enough a player for roleplay to hold much attraction for me - detracts from the effort put into just trying to beat the blasted AI at anything above Monarch!

Ras, I suggest you go to the AU forum. You can get +1's and it helps you with your civ game a lot unlike the OTF

I'm rather the fun type of player and don't seek the super challenge. I probably have the skills to play Demigod and Deity regularly (if I could be bothered with the MM) and occasionally do so, but that's not the type of game I want to fill my scarce free time with. So I play fun games on Emperor and try to replace the fun elements, which unfortunately have been taken out of Civ3 for AI's sake, with roleplaying or thematic restrictions. Examples are "never attack an AI civ" (fight wars only if attacked), or "try to reach the highest amount of reasonable gpt trades", or just to play out the history of a given country as accurate as possible.

With the original Civ I went crazy about history. I read every history book I could get my hands on, and made a special list of when each tech was discovered in real life. I spent many games playing just to beat the real world's advance rate!

What the heck is that supposed to mean? I am a staunch PACIFIST. I have no intentions of upsetting the Mighty Empire of Lord British whatsoever.

Although I did lose horribly all of my intitial PBEMs, the current ones appear to be going much better.
