Oh, waterproof ink, as would be used in a ships log book.

And of course the killing on the 7th and 10th strokes of the bell was the letters G (=7) and J (=10)

Blind Pew was another reference to GJRamsey not seeing without his glasses, and a crossreference to Spiffor propping a blinded corpse upon a church pew. Blind Pew was an old pirate that had sailed before to Treasure Island.

To be fair to -tko, his explanations were perfectly plausible. It's just the clues had many interpretations.
